About this listen

The first novella set in the universe of James S. A. Corey's epic Captive's War series.

Humanity's war is eternal, spread across the galaxy and the ages. Humanity's best hope to end the endless slaughter is the Livesuit forces. Soldiers meld their bodies to the bleeding edge technology, becoming something more than human for the duration of a war that might never end.

Short but very good

Quite different in many ways from The Mercy of Gods (the first book of the series) it gives a delishious taste of what is to come. Follows a military team wearing “Livesuits” a semi-permanent, semi-living, form of battle armor through their training and deployments. There is excellent character development, story, action, and ideas. The worst review I read was that it was too short for the money. I disagree, it was quite short, but it was so good I listened to it four times, enjoying it each time. So far, this series seems as promising as The Expanse and I look forward to many books to come.

Gritty and Profound

Great listen. The reader is really good at his gig. I like this world they are building. Even though this one has a somber note to it. I really liked it. Not exactly an ex machina ending but a slow burn with under tones of romanticism. Sad but satisfying. If you’re like me? Whatever that means… you’ll really enjoy this short story.

Yep, they still got it and James SA Corey are showing no signs of slowing down. Great to have no-brainer sci-fi authors out there. isn't it? New book? Take My money!

Powerful and believable

James A. Corey weaves believable characters and group interactions together like Tarantino. This novella hits a nerve at the intersection of the honor of military service and what it takes from you. I’m very much looking forward to reading more in the captives war series.

Good but,

Good but, too short to really dig into. Corey always writes great stuff, but maybe im just not into the short books.
