Publisher's summary

Book #4 in the Lord Peter Wimsey series.

In this delightful collection of 12 Wimsey adventures, Dorothy L. Sayers reveals a gruesome but intriguing side rarely shown in Lord Peter's full-length adventures. He deals with such marvels as the man with copper fingers, Uncle Meleager's missing will, the cat in the bag, the footsteps that ran, the stolen stomach, and the man without a face.

Excellent will be buying hard copy

Now I understand why every time I try to look up the next book in the series, it sometimes gives me "strong poison",
This really isn't one story. It is about 10 different short stories.
Some are definitely better than others. The one with the crosswords was annoying beyond belief. And in the one previous to that, the entire mystery hinged on an extensive conversation in French, which I don't speak. Or an incredibly thick Scottish accent, which is almost incomprehensible to understand. (although admittedly, this is an issue only with the audiobook. It does not reflect on the story itself).

That being said, more than one time she made me smile and laugh, even with the stories I did not like.
And of course, there were more than enough excellent stories to make up for a few I did not appreciate. The story "the undignified melodrama of the bone of contention" is an absolute top end ghost story, and I happen to be reading this in a windy, chilly October, the perfect time. I also very much enjoyed "the learned adventure of the Dragon's head" and "the adventurous exploit of the cave of Alibaba".
