About this listen

An aimless young woman starts writing to an accused serial killer while he awaits trial and then, once he’s acquitted, decides to move in with him and take the investigation into her own hands in this dark and irresistibly compelling debut thriller.

Recently ghosted and sick of watching her friends fade into the suburbs, thirty-something Hannah finds community in a true-crime forum that’s on a mission to solve the murders of four women in Atlanta. After William, a handsome lawyer, is arrested for the killings, Hannah begins writing him letters. It’s the perfect outlet for her pent-up frustration and rage. The exercise empowers her, and even feels healthy at first.

Until William writes back.

Hannah’s interest in the case goes from curiosity to obsession, leaving space for nothing else as her life implodes around her. After she loses her job, she heads to Georgia to attend the trial and befriends other true-crime junkies like herself. When a fifth woman is discovered murdered, the jury has no choice but to find William not guilty, and Hannah is the first person he calls upon his release. The two of them quickly fall into a routine of domestic bliss.

Well, as blissful as one can feel while secretly investigating their partner for serial murder…

Critic reviews

“Compulsive, twisted and darkly funny—you'll gobble this one up."—Sally Hepworth, New York Times bestselling author of The Soulmate

“I read this book in a single weekend and have been recommending it to people ever since. Fast-paced and thrilling, Love Letters to a Serial Killer is also a compelling character study of a woman who loves the man who might kill her. Coryell’s fiercely witty, intoxicating prose hooked me on page one and never let go.”—Ana Reyes, New York Times bestselling author of The House in the Pines

“I‘m a particular fan of women narrators who have a voice that‘s sardonic, biting, or just straight up self-absorbed. Hannah, the protagonist of Tasha Coryell’s often-hilarious debut is all three, and her black humor communicates truths about the current millennial ennui through her often outlandish remarks.”—Glamour

I have never hated a main character so much!

Where to begin with this book. I wanted to love it. It came highly recommended. I would be lying if I said I didn't skip a couple of chapters to get to the end. It highlights everything I hate about the true crime community. The main character is unrelatable, insecure, and completely idiotic. I could see the ending coming by chapter 5. Skip it if you don't want to be annoyed. The only good thing about this book was the narration.

Wow This Was Intese & Darkly Funny

This book caught my attention from chapter 1 and never let me go. It felt like analyzed people's relationships with social media and true crime, while also telling a story I have always from a distance wondered. Why do some people fall for killer's? As a criminal justice student the psychology of it was always fascinating, but this book analyzes it from the POV of a curious and complex female main character who my heart broke for many times. She is seeking validation and love outwardly which leads to this intense and twisty story. I listened to this book as an audiobook and the narrator, Andi Arndt really pulled me into the story as she sounded like someone I knew. The chapters set during the trial were so fast paced and linked to the mind of our FMC, I felt her obsession grow and began to feel she was unreliable at times. I felt like I was sitting beside the main character as she fell deeper into the dark abyss that was William and the case. I also liked how the author discusses multiple times the constant fear of being a woman and how violence impacts the way women live, interact, and process any actions of the people around them. This fear I've found is universal both on and off the page.

I finished it.

This was… interesting. Can’t honestly say I enjoyed it, but I did listen to the whole thing. Ending may have surprised me, but only slightly.

Epic!

So good! Everything from the narration to the pacing was perfection. The story really draws you in. It feels made for millennials, with the explorations of employment, sense of self and trying to figure everything out. And the ending!!! Just wow. I have no complaints on this one.

Predictable

Did not like the main character at all. She became annoying to me. The story itself was predictable and I kind of guessed what was going to happen ahead of time. I only read it for book club and forced myself to finish it.

Meh

Such a superficial book and I found it to be too predictable. The main character had nothing relatable and had no depth.

love!

Easy to follow plot and if you like something for background like I do this is perfect. Especially if you don't try to predict what will happen, a fun listen with plot twists at perfect moments

Amazing storyline

The story definitely surprised me a couple of times. The ending wasn’t at all what I thought it would be. I recommend this as a perfect summer read or listen!

Predictable “Twist” and Annoying Main Character

I was really excited about this book, until I started to listen to it. Hannah was so annoying, whiny, and unlikable. I figured out the”twist” fairly early, so the ending was super predictable. Not for me.
