Publisher's summary

Never let yourself get comfortable, because life is always waiting to throw you a curveball.... Quinn Riley’s life is finally back on track after being completely off the rails. She wouldn’t exactly classify her life as normal, but it’s a new normal for her. She has a new group of loving friends, including the apparition of a young woman who was good at knowing when she was or was not welcome. Yes, Quinn certainly feels great, but that feeling won’t last. Someone needs her help, and it may just put her in harm’s way all over again.

Eleanor “Ellie” Jameson escaped. She got far away from the man who tried to break her. Now, however, she’s staring at the bleak walls of a jail cell, accused of a murder she didn’t commit. There’s no way she could be found guilty for a murder she had nothing to do with. After all, she firmly believed she was innocent and innocent people don’t get convicted, right?

Same paranormal elements as Book 1 plus a demon

This is book 2 in a series. It can stand alone but it is much richer if Book 1 is read first. Quinn is getting her life back on track and working in the bakery, but she is still being visited by the ghost of Megan, "kind of like an annoying kid sister" she has come to adore. Megan begs her to help her friend Ellie who has just been arrested. The story is told in alternating chapters by Ellie and Quinn. As in book 1 the paranormal is handled very believably without undo hocus pocus. The characters are very well developed and felt like old friends. We have some courtroom drama as Leah's friend defends Ellie against murder charges. To me this was a light easy to follow murder mystery that happens to also involve the paranormal. I enjoyed learning more about the characters' lives. The narrator Laura Saunders did an excellent job. Her different voices were sometimes annoying but fitting and you could always tell who was talking. Thanks to Story Origin for allowing me to listen to a copy of this book. I hope there will be more in this series.

Good Paranormal Mystery Story!!

I purchased and listened to this book on Audible books. I listened to book #1 and gave it also a 5 Star rating a couple of years ago. Had really high hopes for this second book And it Met those hopes. The Narrator did a wonderful job with the characters voices and the entire storyline!! This is a story a Nice, Timid girl who fell in love with a Troubled man. After she finally had enough she leaves him to return home to her parents home to try to restart her life. Suddenly she is arrested for murder of her ex-boyfriend.

Baskerville Book Reviews

The intro of this story has me feeling a bit conflicted about it. It re-introduces characters and the setting. While I could have used that for Anhedonia, I reviewed Lowcountry Incantations recently (at the time of writing this) so it only managed to slow the pace of the novel down.

Eventually, it managed to pick up speed and I was hanging onto every word for a while. It did get slow again and kinda lost me after a while. It felt like there was too much back and forth. Just more of the same, over and over and I got bored and took a break.

I wasn’t sure where this series would go from the first novel. While they did manage to work in the whole ghost and psychic thing again, I don’t think it could go on, sadly. It would start to feel like Scooby-Doo. Where the characters are just solving cases they keep bumping into. I almost never talk about endings and the reason I bring this up was that I think it left things off in a satisfying way.

I did notice an error (No timestamp for the audiobook, sorry). When a character says “What evidence could they possibly have that she’s innocent?” while trying to prove her innocence. I have no idea how this could have slipped past so many people and kinda took me out of the moment. As mistakes do, but I admit I enjoy finding mistakes in stories.

While characters have never been my thing, I really enjoyed this group. The way they all interact and communicate is believable. They really feel like a genuine group of newfound friends. I wish I could describe why or how. I’ve always been a loner and people have never been my thing. I rarely talk about people or characters in stories because I don’t understand them. Even now, I can’t remember a single character’s name. Just the idea that they represent. I remember characters based on context clues or dialogue.

The narration overall is great. There was an instance where the character perspective shifted and I wasn’t able to tell (based on the narrator’s voice). Otherwise, she was great and there weren’t any issues with the audiobook.

An interesting read

Quinn looses her job, which starts a series of events that change her life forever. While driving home she finds a stray dog in the road. She stops to help and is hit by a car. Soon after that she realizes she is being followed by a ghost As things get stranger, you will get sucked in. A great story with lots of surprises & suspense.

Entertaining!

This is the second book in the Lowcountry Psychic Series, a Paranormal Mystery Series. It is better to listen to this Series in order. I liked the first book in the Series, and was thrilled to follow Quinn's adventures again. This second book is captivating. The characters are well developed, and intriguing. I liked to see again the characters from the first book, along with some new characters. There is a lot going on in this story. The storyline is well written, interesting, and fast-paced, filled with mystery, and twists and turns. Laura C. Saunders did a great job with the narration. I enjoyed it.

Pretty good

Not bad at all. I really enjoyed listening to this story. I thought that the author did a great job at making the characters believable. The narrator completed the story by bring the characters to life.
