About this listen

Don't talk to strangers....

Faced with his parents' divorce, 11-year-old Lucas runs away from home in the hope that his family will get back together to find him. While walking through the empty streets, he is picked up by a mysterious woman who offers to take care of him and provide him with a loving family.

The boy then wakes up in shackles, confined to a bed in a decrepit house in the middle of nowhere and will have to face his deepest fears in order to survive in his new home.

Join Lucas in a desperate attempt to get back to his family in Madhouse, the first published audiobook from horror-thriller author Miguel Estrada.

Didn't see that end coming at all!

Madhouse by Miguel Estrada was crazy. It was unexpected. It was twisted...and fun! Lucas is trying to save his parents marriage and decides to run away, hoping that focusing on his disappearance will bring them together again. He doesn't plan on really running away, just hiding out for a little bit. Well, he meets a strange lady and wakes up shackled in the titular Madhouse. The man and woman living in the madhouse are quite literally mad and Lucas has to do everything he can to escape and make it back home to his parents without getting killed. This was a fun, fast paced and horror filled short story with a twist that I didn't see coming at all.

Zak Price did a great job narrating this crazy tale. He made it easy to settle right into the story and I'd happily listen to more of his narrations in the future. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Enjoyable listen...

I have read the ebook and loved it! Then I found out there was an audiobook. So I listened, The narrator did a wonderful job of reading the book. I have a slight hearing problem but I had no problem understanding every word he said. He was not too low or too loud. The story was as enjoyable as it was when I read it myself. I do hope there is a movie someday.

twisted strangers

the story at times moved at too fast of a pace for me and seemed to omit details but overall it's an unexpected surprise with lots of jumping when certain scenes happened

The twist at the end.

I loved that at the very end the story came full circle with the “foster” parents having been his real biological parents all along.

Following through the story I did not expect that plot twist.

I would like to see a sequel because I definitely think there’s another story to tell about Lucas and his life post Madhouse, along with his mother keeping her new secret.

Great book

I really enjoyed everything about this book. It was very tense, a bit scary at times and full of suspense. There is a surprise at the end that I didn’t see coming!

I was on the edge of my seat

Zak Price is an amazing narrator. His voice and the way he read this book had me so in to it I just set in my chair. This was my first book by Miguel Estrada but it will not be my last.

I was given my copy of this book at my request and chose to leave this review.

Great, but too short

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a short but intense horror story. It is well narrated and kept me riveted the whole time. I just wish it was a full length novel. I loved the plot twist ending, though. I really didn't see it coming. Definitely recommend!

Don't Run Away From Home

I have never wanted to run away from home. I have known people who have and while they seemed to have fun for a few days eventually they had to go back home and face the consequences. Have to say this reaffirms my decision to never do that.
The story is quick, but pedal down the whole way. Would say this follows the typical abduction story and since it is packed into a two hour story it engages you quick and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way. As should be expected with such a short story there isn’t much for character development, but you do develop a relationship with Lucas quickly. There is a huge twist at the end that changes how you feel about everything you listened to.
Zak does a great job. Good character voices and made for a pleasant listen to a not so pleasant story.
