Publisher's summary

Twenty-year-old Maggie Montgomery is a petite young woman ahead of her time. She's had a wonderful childhood and enjoyed spending time with her father and five brothers and is happiest working in the smithy with them. A competent cook and housekeeper, as a favor to the local doctor, she moves in to assist his wife, who is struggling to recuperate from a bout of pneumonia.

A tomboy at heart, she ignores her mother's pleas to dress more appropriately. Until the son returns. A recent graduate of medical school, although handsome, the young doctor is stoic and obviously put out that his father has hired her to help his mother recuperate.

Sparks fly, and suddenly, for the first time, Maggie is concerned more about how she is perceived by others, especially the young doctor? The question is: why?

Can they get past their first impressions?

Sweet Christian romance.

This is my first book by this author. I don’t typically like Christian romance that quotes scripture but I liked the way this author approached it. I also thought the verses she used and the teaching of the scriptures she chose were just right for me. I appreciated it. The story between the young doctor and Maggie was sweet. The romance itself didn’t move me much. A bit more emotion there would have been nice. I liked the narrator. I have listened to his narration before. I tend to like female narrators better but it is only a personal preference. This is a short story so I didn’t feel like I feel in love with the characters so much during that time but Maggie sure had some spunk to her.

Forging love

Cute love story. Maggie was adopted by the Montgomery's after her parents died. She was raised as a good Christian and worked with her Father and brothers in the smithy. She also is a good cook and housekeeper. When the doctors wife takes ill, she goes there to assist her. While working there, she finally meets their son Benjamin, BJ. He is now a doctor, and questions Maggie's skills as his mother's aide. He is not quite sure what to make of Maggie, but she is different and he likes it. Maggie finally has the opportunity to improve her appearance, by working for the doctors wife and not the work clothes of a tomboy. Suddenly, she is being noticed as a young lady by the single men in town, especially the new doctor. Will first impressions hurt what could be. Follow the strong minded female, Maggie, in her quest for love. Enjoyable and great narration.

Love Maggie!!

Carrie Town Texas is a busy place! Maggie is there to help out the local doctor while his wife is ill. Able to normal house chores, she is much more a tomboy, as she helped her father and brothers in their blacksmith shop. She also has a knowledge of medicinal herbs which is helpful in her new job. She never took much time to worry about her looks, but now that the doctor's son has returned, she begins to change a little. But why change for him? BJ is frustrated that his father has help for his mom. He sees Maggie as being less, but what he comes to find out is things aren't always as they seem. This novella is a beautiful love story.Kimberly Grist always writes sweet romances, but what I love about this one is in particular is Maggie. She is not cut out like the women of the time and I love that she isn't ashamed of it. She is strong, competent and talented and it's a wonderful story!

J Scott Bennett brings the story to life with his wonderfully soothing voice. I love his storytelling, He is a perfect fit for the western romance, and he finds the niche for each character. Always easy to hear his voice, he enhances the story and makes my ears happy.

Sweet little story

This was a nice glimpse into courting years ago. I didn't notice that it was only a 2.5 hour book so I was disappointed when it ended because I wanted more. With all the doom and gloom these days it was nice to spend some time with a wholesome lovely story.

Another clean sweet Texas romance

I enjoyed this clean sweet romance by Kimberly Grist. It is a well written story that keeps your interest. A lot is covered in the 2.5 hours. This is the first book in this series that I have heard or read. I would listen to other books by this author.

J Scott Bennett is one of my favorite narrators. As usual he does a great job with the narration. His narration is easy to listen to and makes the story pass quickly.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
