Publisher's summary

The only suspect to his best friend’s murder....

When Kirby Jackson’s friend Ryan is found dead in the comics and coffee shop the two co-own, Kirby quickly becomes suspect number one.

Perhaps things wouldn't look so bad had Kirby not been planning to cut Ryan out of the business.

The only witness to the crime, Ryan’s stubborn dachshund, might hold the keys to solving the case. But his attitude toward anything and everything that isn’t his warm doggy bed is less than helpful.

With a local detective and former high school crush investigating the murder, it's up to Kirby to put together the clues. Otherwise, he's doing 25 to life.

Comics and Coffee Case Files is the perfect series for dog-loving fans of The Cat Who. Check out the first installment in this quirky series today.

This Story Had Me at the Title!

I was intrigued by this cozy mystery when I first read the title. I have only recently started listening to cozy mysteries, but I have quite enjoyed them. I find many center around knitting, cats, and books (which I love,) but this cozy mystery takes a unique approach with the comics.

There is a lot packed into this short story, but I never felt overwhelmed by the plot. I felt their were a lot of characters thrown at me in a short period of time, but I quickly figured out who was worth remembering. The characters are unique and developed well. I hope to see many of these characters throughout the next few novels. I am most excited to see the relationship between Kirby and Felicia (who each had a crush on the other in high school.) I was guessing who the killer was until the end of the mystery.

Jeffrey Kafer has a nice voice to listen to. I felt most of his character voices were very distinct, and it was easy to tell who was talking. I would listen to him again.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left an honest review.

Fun and fast paced

This is the first book in the Comics and Coffee Case Files cozy mystery series. When his business partner is found dead in their comic/coffee shop Kirby becomes the cop’s number one suspect. This is a fun cozy mystery featuring likable main characters and, despite what the blurb might lead you to believe, quite a few suspects. It’s fast-paced story with a number of twists that kept me entertained from start to finish, with Jeffrey Kafer doing his usual excellent job of narration. Now on to the next!

Marvels,Mochas and Murder

This was a really good short read! The owners of Kapow Kofee have been friends since they were kids. When one is killed,is the other one really the one who did it? Jeffrey Kafer was a very good narrator.

Good Story

The narrator did a great job. I thought the end was a little weak. The characters were well developed. I want Meemaw to play more of a role. She and her book club should start meeting at the coffee house. And take a greater interest in the goings on think arsenic and old lace.

A mystery for your inner nerd...

Marvels, Mochas, and Murder (Comics and Coffee Case Files, Book 1) by Christine Zane Thomas & William Tyler Davis and narrated by Jeffrey Kafer is a fun listen. Recommend if you enjoy light mysteries revolving around comics, coffee, and friendships.

What’s it about? Ryan and Kirby have been best friends since sixth grade and now, as adults, they own a coffee and comic book shop together. Unfortunately Ryan’s extracurricular activities have finally done him in, or so it is thought. Kirby is left caring for Ryan’s dog (Gambit), the store, and trying to solve the murder. There’s D & D, comic book and coffee knowledge, and some pop-culture references mixed in. I listened to this in one sitting and it held my interest the entire time- despite the shorter book, there are enough characters to keep you guessing.

The narrator, Jeffrey Kafer, did a good job with this. Easy-to-listen-to and smooth narration all around.

Overall I highly recommend, especially if your inner geek is looking for a light mystery.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: affairs, mention of fight in high school, death (multiple). Language used- sx1, damn x1,hell x4.

I enjoyed it a latte.

Have you ever read (or listened) to a book and thought that you'd really like the author(s) as a person (people)? That's what happened for me with this book. I'm definitely on the nerd end of the spectrum, but enjoying this book doesn't require any significant nerd knowledge. The setting of a coffee shop combined with a comic book store never dives too deeply into the comics part, but it also never gets anything wrong that would make someone in my demographic cringe. It's a nice cozy mystery in a modern setting with enjoyable characters. The narration was good, though not fabulous - it never distracted from the story, which is sometimes better than a brilliant performance. I look forward to Book 2.
