Publisher's summary

We all harbor beasts who hunger from the inside, trapped within a prison of flesh as we claw at the walls of our humanity.

Jose had made the unfortunate decision to work with the cartel under the guise of providing a better life for his loving wife, five-year-old son, and newborn daughter. All too late, Jose learns that we are free to make any decision in life that we want, but it’s the consequences we cannot avoid.

An eerie howl reminiscent of a haunted train pierces the night, signifying that the hunt has begun....

Feel the pull of the Moonlight Equilibrium and get lost in a visceral world of unrelenting terror, exquisitely detailed gore, and the existential sorrow of regret.

If you like Jim Butcher, Shayne Silvers, Cameron O’Connell, Kevin Hearne, Steve McHugh, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Shannon Mayer, or K.F. Breene, you won't be able to put down the highly addictive Preternatural Chronicles.

“Hunter Blain is my spirit animal.” (Shayne Silvers, Amazon Top 25 best-selling author)

Nine out of ten people who recommend things loved Hunter Blain’s books, according to a rigged and heavily-biased research study overseen by Argento Publishing....

Note from the sick and twisted author: This novel can be listened to as a standalone horror book. It can also be a sweet, delectable treat for those who are already engrossed in the Preternatural Chronicles as it fills in some backstory between books 3 and 4. From the perspective of a human…. I do so hope you enjoy the ride…because the humans definitely don’t.

Insert evil laugh while twirling the ends of my mustache.

Interesting Take on the story

only loosely related to the rest of the series, it was still a fun and well written story.

Terrifically Terrifying

I enjoyed stepping into a different side of the story. It was a very intense break from the humor and I thought the reader was extra scary. I devoured this book, one bloody digit at a time. Nightmares! -Katy L

loved it. perfect blend of fantasy, reality, with a touch of darkness highly recommended. Joel voice brings a extra creep vibe to the story also.

A good change in pace.

The seriousness of this book, compared to John Cook perspective was impressive. I enjoyed the narration and the gritty dark side of this novella. Hunter Blain does some fine work.

Abandon all hope he who listens to this!

Warning: No happy ending, but a great listen nonetheless! I'm a big fan of Hunter Blain and have read and/or listen to all of his works, so needless to say I didn't expect a happy ending but damn, Hunter, you could have (spoilers redacted to ensure the safety and happiness of the listener)

unlistenable

The first three books of this series were good, but not great, entertaining but a bit derivative, but with a good performance by the reader. This book was unlistenable. The reader is different and the plot is like a schlocky horror movie. Since the price was under $13, I paid with cash, and under Audible’s new rules, I cannot return this stinker. People, use your credits, unless it’s very heap!

Cannot recommend this book

Completely lacking in the humor, cohesion & empathy of the other books in this series. Filled with gratuitous gore. Judging from his lack of inflection or emotion, the narrator may have had a pre frontal lobotomy.

A Bit Different, but still solid overall.

I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect from a book that from the beginning took a slight detour from the Preternatural Chronicles timeline as it were. At first it didn’t seem super interesting, but after a certain point, it started to get reallly good. I know that if you’ve read this book, the point I’m talking about in the book, may or may not make you question what kind of person i am. However, I’m a fan of action & when it comes to ohhh say Werewolves, it just so happens to be in certain cases, when they go ballistic & start going on a feeding frenzy, but whatever.. I’m a weirdo. Anyways, good resting point for some people to digest what happened in Preternatural Chronicles Book 3, while wondering what’s going to happen in 4.
