About this listen

For defense attorney Samantha Brinkman, it's not about guilt or innocence - it's about making sure her clients walk.

In the follow-up to bestselling Blood Defense, Samantha is hired as the legal advocate for Cassie Sonnenberg after a brutal stabbing left her father and brother dead, and her mother barely clinging to life. It's a tabloid-ready case that has the nation in an uproar - and Sam facing her biggest challenge yet. Why did Cassie survive? Is she hiding something?

As Sam digs in to find the answers, she's surprised to find herself identifying with Cassie, becoming more and more personally entangled in the case. But when Sam finally discovers the reason for that kinship, she faces a choice she never imagined she'd have to make.

Better and better

Marcia Clark's Samantha Brinkman series keeps getting better and better. Characters are real and she keeps you sure you know what's going on, and then completely and logically destroys your assumptions. Highly recommended.

Another Fun Ride with Sam Brinkman

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would so recommend this audibook to friends who like a little legal mystery with some twist and turns and a shady lawyer. With this story they will get all the physiological twist and turn story telling that you would get in a good TV movie of the week and a bit of Los Angeles acting as not just background but as a character in itself.

What other book might you compare Moral Defense to and why?

I would compare this book to The 7th Canon, by Robert Dugoni. Another mystery lawyer book that has twist and turns and a lawyer that is willing to go the extra mile for his client. Even if the extra mile may be a little not so legal up and up.

Have you listened to any of Angela Dawe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not listened to another book narration by Angela Dawe but I applaud her great performance in this book. I would like to listen to more of her narration in the future. I was impressed by her ability to transform into all those characters, male and female, and I'm also impressed with very well pronunciation of all those Spanish words. Made it seem so authentic. Brava to her for doing such a stellar job.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Samantha Brinkman, the lawyer who works for justice.... Legal or Not.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the first book for it's high adrenaline story line but I did appreciate this book for all it's twist and turns and even two of the side stories. I'm not a fan of books that have way too many side stories but for this book it worked. It helped flesh out the character of Samantha Brinkman and to show her complexities and how low she will go to get things done; legal or otherwise. She's sort of the anit-hero. Not all goody goody and high morals like that of Supergirl but a bit more like the Merc with the Mouth... aka: Deadpool. It's all about getting the job done and exacting justice whether it's in the courtroom or street. I like that.

pretty good

Although the narrator is not as good, imo, than the first Brinkman book, it was a good story. I enjoy Clark's style.

Samantha Brinkman series is a Winner.

This is another really good book, the second in the Samantha Brinkman series. In this book a family is butchered by an unknown, possibly a gang member. The only one untouched is the adopted teenage daughter. Throughout the book a horrible story of psychological and sexual abuse is revealed. Because Samantha is the young girl's attorney and she herself has a history of abuse at the hands of her stepfather, she is inclined to believe. As the story progresses more horrific acts come out. Are they true? Clark does a great job leading the reader/listener between two prominent characters and until you hear the last chapter you will not know who committed the crime.
Samantha is surrounded by a cast of colorful characters that really fill the story with excellent dialogue.
Interesting subplots going on as well that include drugs and human trafficking and some not so ethical acts by the attorney but done for a good cause.
Angela Dawe did a great job narrating. She is normally not on my top narrator list but I believe she has found her niche with this series.
This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

A pleasant surprise

I was skeptical about the author. Started it last night and had trouble falling asleep as I usually do during the read...
Kept resetting my sleep timer ... just bought the first in series to catch up.... starting it in few minutes... so relaxing.

Excellent job by the narrator

Angela Dawe does a great job of doing a variety of voices. She also does male voices well.

Good Story line Great Story Telling

Angela Dawe is a master narrator. She always keeps your interest with the various voices and inflections.

Most of the storylines were interesting with many twists and turns; however, the Orosco's storyline drug on too long and became boring. While I had figured out the twist on the main plot ahead of time, the unveiling was beautifully done.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Marcia Clark.

Questionable morals

I love the characters, love the narration, do not like the questionable morals, and the making of wrongs seem right.
