About this listen

As another year unfolded, lifestyle blogger and mom of three Miranda Anderson realized she felt weighed down by the mass of belongings her family had been accumulating.

In an effort to pare down and cultivate a deeper sense of gratitude and abundance in their lives, she and her husband decided to embark on a minimalism challenge, where they would stop all unnecessary shopping for one year. It meant learning to use what they already had and being more creative.

"Less stuff, more adventure" became their mantra as they focused on gaining enriching family moments and seeking personal development. Life became about only choosing what truly matters and simply disregarding the rest.

With candid narrative of her experiences, insightful discussion of principles, and practical questions to answer, Miranda's journey will empower listeners to make small, impactful changes to live more intentionally and will show that whatever they have today can be more than enough.

Perfect for me in my life right now

This book came to me at the perfect time. I was already feeling overwhelmed by our stuff. We recently bought a home and have been decorating and filling it. I thought it would make our home feel more cozy and comfortable, but all it did was make me feel more overwhelmed. We were spending so much time maintaining our home and things that we didn’t have any time to enjoy each other. We are taking the challenge and I’m excited to see where we are at in a year.

Such a GREAT read!

I loved this book so much. It gave me such practical insight on how buying less stuff (within reason) opens doors for more adventure, memories, and opportunity. I’m familiar with Miranda’s work and have listened to her on her own podcast and other podcasts before, but I still learned so much from this book. Even though this isn’t the intent of her book, we decided to do the exact same challenge Miranda did for one year. We at the end of month one and I can already see how it’s positively influenced my family. Bonus: she is super easy to listen to and loved that SHE is reading her book, not some mechanical robotic voice.

Read this NOW!!

This book is a must read for everyone! No matter what phase of life you’re in, the principles shared by Miranda are applicable and will help you create a more abundant and joyful life. Her tips are practicable and doable and she shares how to alter them. I loved her stories and family examples of how her family didn’t shop for a year and the lessons they learned. However, the book goes beyond her own experience. Without making you feel like you need to copy her practices exactly, she shares ways you can cultivate a more grateful and intentional life, with or without kids.
Seriously, it’s so freeing to implement some of these tips and feel more free! Thanks Miranda!!

Great book

Very informative and good insights to minimalism. Great narrator I would recommend if you’re beginning your journey. The only thing I didn’t like was the kids part. I don’t care for that part. Other than that good book

Practical

I saw good and bad reviews on this, but the sample was intriguing enough to use a credit. I've read all of the books by The Minimalists, and enjoyed them for sure, but they aren't practical for now. I am the only person in our house interested in minimalism, and can't clear the clutter that doesn't belong to me, or prevent others from making purchases. While this book focuses on a family journey to not purchase the unnecessary for an entire year, I think its practical enough in practice that any one person could also take up the challenge for themselves as a personal goal in or out of a family unit. Is the information new? No. I think the value in the book comes from the narrative of the experience. Where this family did make decisions to purchase items that were maybe not necessary, but in fact were useful and perhaps needed for a thought out, non-impulsive reasoning. I also thought the way they handled this adult no spend with their young children was great, and its something you don't see in a lot of other books on the topic, or at least not to the same level as shared here. Well worth the listen.
