A journey you won’t want to miss

My husband and I listened to the Audible version of “Motherhood: Lost and Found” together while on a road trip. The fact that the author provided the narration added an element of heartfelt emotion that could only have come from someone who had lived through the experience. We were drawn into Ann’s story right from the beginning as she pulled the curtain back and allowed us a glimpse into her family’s lives during the unfolding drama connected with aging parents – one with dementia, while at the same time struggling with the emotional roller-coaster of infertility.
Having cared for a mother with dementia and a father ill with Parkinson’s, it was easy to relate to some of the various challenges she faced. However, I would certainly say that this book is much more than simply a story about Alzheimer’s. Ann’s words draw a picture of courage, honesty, and the willingness to do the hard thing even when feeling weak and worn out.
Do not think that this is a story of sadness and defeat – no, rather, it takes you on a journey that offers the reader hope and a salve for a grieving heart. No matter where you find yourself in your life, this is one journey you won’t want to miss.

Beautifully written and narrated by the author!

I feel so fortunate that I stumbled upon this lovely memoir. This story personifies kindness, patience and grace. I personally would love to have Ann as a friend. If I needed someone to care for me in my time of need I would choose her. Her family is so lucky. I have recommended this book to my 2 sisters. We grew up with horses, and we also enjoyed many family get togethers in Lake George. We are also caring for our father who has dementia. Listening to Ann’s story was a gift, and helped me feel connected to her and her life.
