Publisher's summary

For some, the streets aren't wild enough.

Xi Chen can see beyond the surface level of the work-sleep cycle and the shackles imposed on its population by the city of Neon. He's joined a group of like-minded individuals seeking to force change from the ground up. Only, when change comes, it's not exactly what they had in mind.

It's far from what detectives Deke Allinson and Catherine Slay had in mind, too. With so many deaths on their hands, the pressure from above, and their need to "do what is right" stretches them to breaking point. How far are they willing to go to test their loyalty?

Book one in a cyberpunk crime and mystery trilogy, Neon City follows on from the Neon Sands Trilogy, with characters old and new fighting to break the chains of slavery.

Neon City

This was my first foray into the World of Neon City, and I can’t help but feel like I was at a disadvantage. I realize that this is the fourth book in a series, but it was also listed as the first book in a cyberpunk crime and mystery trilogy, so I decided to give it a go. It took me a while to get a feeling for everything and figure out what was going on. Once things started settling into place, I became very invested in the story.

Both the author, Adam J. Smith, and narrator, Steven Miller, did a fine job. Once I settled in and figured out what was going on, I enjoyed all the action and the performance.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Another well-written story from a very good author

Neon City: A Cyberpunk Trilogy (Neon, Book 4), my fifth read from author Adam J. Smith. 6-hours 3-minutes/213-pages, a bit more graphically adult in content than other books in the series. Steven Miller's narration adds to a good book's excellence. I look forward to more from this author. "I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." An exciting sci-fi dystopian adventure!

Adam J. Smith writes an exciting sci-fi dystopian adventure. Detailed characters and a harsh world make for an engaging and dangerous story. Multiple POVS and multiple timelines make for an interesting read once you wrap your brain around it all. I look forward to Adam's next series! Audio Version: Steven Miller continues to do a great job with each character and overall narration.

Terrific writing and narration

The actions of the Detectives really pulled the story together. The intro material of drugs and augmentation set the scene but the detectives really make it real. Good Job

Very good addition the the Neon Series

Another action-packed offering from Adam J Smith in his Neon series. This fourth episode provides more detail about the world Neon City exists in, as well as its caste system. While I enjoyed this story, I wasn’t sure where in the story arc chronology this episode fit, is it from before the time in the Neon Sands stories or is it the same time as those stories. Steven Miller’s narration made the story come alive. I received a review copy through StoryOrigin and chose to provide this review.

Would not recommend

I had a hard time staying interested in this book. I never could get a grasp on the where the plot was going. It just seemed superficial - chase, blood, sex. Who was the main character(s)? What were their roles and purposes? The performance was also dry.
