Publisher's summary

Nim lives on an island in the middle of the wide blue sea, shared by only her father, Jack, a marine iguana called Fred, a sea lion called Selkie, a turtle called Chica, and a satellite dish for her e-mail. No one else in the world lives quite like Nim, and she wouldn't swap places with anyone.

But when Jack disappears in his sail boat and disaster threatens her home, Nim must be braver than she's ever been before. And she needs help from her friends, old and new.

Critic reviews

"[A] fantasy tale as welcome as a breath of fresh tropical air....With ample doses of suspense and comedy...the tale portrays the improbable so cleverly that readers will want to believe everything about the likable Nim and her idyllic isle." ( Publishers Weekly)

A sweet, fun adventure!

Always, always remember your life jacket. However, if there are any animals around like the wonderful, clever animals in this book, you'll be just fine. Perfectly a-little-scary-but-not-too-scary for kids. I can't wait to see the movie now! :)

overall loved the tale

What made the experience of listening to Nim's Island the most enjoyable?

You could imagine the experiences of living on that remote uninhabited island. what an adventure for a young adult! All kids want to be raised with wild animals as their close friends, I did!

What other book might you compare Nim's Island to and why?

something like Flipper, Never read Robinson Crusoe or related genre books so cant make exact comparison

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reactions, but sure felt the fear when that storm rolled in both for Nim to be alone on the island, worrying about her dad, and for dad trying so hard to get back to his daughter.

Any additional comments?

my only complaint was the reader's annoying constant pronunciation of the word incognito in the email address that she had to read a lot. 'In-cog-knito' she'd say, instead of In-cog-neeto as its supposed to be. it was the email address of a woman hiding behind her male name as an author--going incognito under her writers pseudonym.

Made my commute bearable!

My son loved listening to it. I would recommend to people commuting with children 6 years or older.

Delightful

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was funny and entertaining. It was also nice to see a strong, girl heroine.

Fun Island Adventure

This was a very good children's story. I loved the character of Nim along with her human and animal friends. The story will appeal to kids, with the descriptions of life on the island mixed with adventure, animal friends and s happy ever after ending!
