Publisher's summary

A prophecy of keys has been set in motion, and darkness will rule again if the game is not played.

For one thousand years, a peace law has ruled over the realm of Raymara with an iron fist. When a storyteller unleashes five deadly beasts from the magic of his dreams, the once-harmless land is thrown into chaos.

Five unlikely companions embark on a harrowing quest to find the beasts and return them to the pages from which they were created. Little do they know, they've been given a task much greater than they've bargained for.

Of Liars and Thieves is an epic tale of discovery, friendship, love, and betrayal. Perfect for fans of Hafsah Faizal and Patrick Rothfuss.

Swords and Revelry

I'm thrilled to share my enthusiastic review of the audiobook "Of Liars and Thieves" by Gabriela Lavarello, wonderfully narrated by Toby J. Smith. This captivating fantasy journey is a must-listen for all fans of the genre.

Lavarello weaves a rich tapestry of intrigue and adventure in a realm ruled by a thousand years of peace, shattered when an imaginative storyteller's dreams give life to five formidable beasts. The resulting chaos thrusts the once-tranquil land of Raymara into turmoil, setting the stage for an epic quest that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The narrative's depth and complexity are truly engaging. As five unlikely companions set out on their daring mission to reclaim and return the unleashed beasts, they discover that their destiny holds far greater significance than they could have imagined. The story's layers of discovery, friendship, love, and betrayal create a riveting atmosphere reminiscent of classic fantasy tales.

While comparisons to renowned authors like Hafsah Faizal and Patrick Rothfuss may raise expectations, "Of Liars and Thieves" is a gem in its own right. Drawing inspiration from classic works like "Lord of the Rings," the story emanates a sense of adventure and enchantment. The reminiscent flavor of "The Riddlemaster of Hed" and echoes of "The Chronicles of Narnia" offer a nostalgic nod to the roots of fantasy literature.

The characters are the true heart of this tale. Following the journeys of the main cast, which expands to six if you count the endearing Nora, is an absolute delight. The dynamics between them are a rollercoaster of emotions, blending heartfelt moments, humorous interactions, and challenging situations that organically transform strangers into a close-knit family. One romantic aspect unfolds a bit abruptly, but the other delivers a beautifully paced evolution from friendship to something more, leaving your heart all warm and fuzzy.

Special mention must go to Tedric, a character that steals the show with his unmatched charisma. He's an absolute scene-stealer and a true testament to the author's creative prowess.

Toby J. Smith's narration is a true highlight of the audiobook. With a nuanced delivery, he skillfully navigates between poignant and action-packed scenes, ensuring that each emotional beat resonates profoundly. Smith's portrayal of Tedric's distinct personality is particularly remarkable, infusing the narrative with an extra layer of depth.

In summary, "Of Liars and Thieves" is a captivating audiobook that will whisk you away on a spellbinding adventure. Gabriela Lavarello's narrative expertise and Toby J. Smith's exceptional narration combine to create an experience that tugs at your heartstrings, ignites your imagination, and leaves you eagerly anticipating more. Whether you're a seasoned fantasy enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this audiobook deserves a prominent place in your listening queue.

Nice Enough Story

Was so very East to figure out who was going to betray, where everything was heading. To easy to get ahead of the book, that is was not that enjoyable.
Narrator does a very good job with what he had to work with.
