About this listen

Written by John Owen, one of the best known of the Puritans. In The Mortification of Sin, John Owen insisted on the importance of the Christian dealing effectively with their sinful tendencies and attitudes. He believed that God, through his Word and Spirit, had provided the guidelines and the power for this to be achieved. Owen effectively dismisses various excuses for not engaging in self scrutiny and yet avoids the current trend of self absorption. In so doing he provides principles to help believers live lives of holiness. As with all of Owen's writings, continues to be widely read and greatly appreciated to this day.

Striking and weighty

narrator had a tall task to capture the depth and concepts considering the dated language. but the content is worth the work.

The extensive biblical wisdom of Owen cannot be overstated.

This is one of the few books I make myself read every year because it is so spiritually important to consistently mortify our sin.

Hits Home

Fantastic book for any true believer in the God of the bible and His Christ.
It truly points to the heart of the evil that all endure and must live with and speaks to the heart the way and means to control the evil that lies within us all even the saved. It will certainly remind you what you "must" do each and everyday to deal with the pain of sin in ones life John Owen does not mix words and it's as though he's speaking directly to you the individual listening to this one of a kind.
I MOST HIGHLY recommend it, even to those who think they've got a handle on their sinfulness.

Heavy

If hard sermons create soft hearts for repentance, this sermon is a jackhammer. Might want to listen in segments with some gospel in-between...

Timeless essential truth profoundly expounded!

Next to the Bible, because the truth herein is so expertly drawn from the Bible and absolutely essential to ones spiritual sanctification, there has not been, for me at least, a more important read.
The somewhat archaic English requires you to listen intently in order to discover the deep truths, but should you be hungering and thirsting after righteousness your efforts will be rewarded as our Lord has promised. You will be filled.

great introduction into Puritan authors.

I thought is was and excellent book and, although I was slightly intimated by the older language, it was fairly easy to follow along with if you're actively listening.
