Publisher's summary

We don't believe that our lives can change in an instant - until they do.

Olivay, widowed for a year and sleepwalking through life, meets Henry by chance. She takes him to her Los Angeles loft, thinking it will just be for the night. But the following morning, bombs detonate across the city; mayhem and carnage fill the streets; and her loft is covered in broken glass and her own blood. Henry is skittish, solicitous, and strangely distracted. Who is this man she's marooned with as the city goes on lockdown? Why is she catching him in lie after lie? Is he somehow connected to her husband's death and the terrorist attacks outside?

With eloquent and suspenseful prose, Olivay explores the wreckage of loss and the collision of grief, desire, and terror in its aftermath. As the characters get pushed outside their comfort zones, forced to walk the thin line between destruction and salvation, Olivay keeps readers guessing what will become of Olivay and Henry until the very end.

"Meaness That Doesn't Know When To Quit"

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, this author is not for me. I purchased due to Ms Dawe as the reader. She brought out every element the author intended. Bravo! However, I was just irritated through most of the story. This type of writing and story evokes strong emotions so if you like an author who can do this, then this is for you.

If you’ve listened to books by Deborah Reed before, how does this one compare?

No, this is my first and last as her subject matter/style is too dark for me. Don't get me wrong, she is a talented writer. This is a mystery and a good story line. It was also a widow's personal journey I just didn't like. I stayed with this listen due to Ms Dawe, but if I had been reading it, I would have stopped early on as the heroine got on my nerves.

What about Angela Dawe’s performance did you like?

Ms Dawe is my fave. Her male voices are great. She brings our hero out so well, that it over came my irritation of the heroine, whom she performed so well as the author wrote it.
I did use new 1.25x speed to have the action match the author's story.
See Julie Garwoods Sweet Talk, and Tiffany Snow series she reads. WOW

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

no, as it had the flavor of "Gone Girl"
