Publisher's summary

In spite of their painful pasts, can best friends fall in love?

Everyone calls her "the girl who had amnesia.”

With the help of her best friend and fishing buddy, Jessie has spent the past two years healing from her ordeal and making a new life for herself in Winfield.

He feels he’ll never overcome the “stain” from his family.

Though attracted to her, Chad respects the barrier Jessie maintains. Her happiness means so much to him. And she never looks down on him. On a sunny July afternoon, she and Chad go angling to catch supper. Successful, they take fresh caught trout to share with Chad's father and uncle.

Evil shatters their peace.

They find Chad's great uncle n the garage floor, unconscious and bleeding from a head wound. And Chad's ex-con father is nowhere to be found – – kidnapped or guilty of the attack?

As the mystery unfolds, Jessie and Chad draw closer. Will these best friends admit they’ve become more than friends?

A tender best friends to sweethearts romance with suspense designed to keep you up at night!

“Ms. Cote writes superb suspense and Northern Shore Intrigue has been an awesome series. Ominous Midsummer works as a standalone but is also a very satisfying conclusion to this series. This well written book kept me on the edge of my seat and I could not put it down. Too many inexplicable things were happening in Chad's and Jess' lives. Were they connected? What was the motive and who were the perpetrators. I love the themes of trusting God and the possibility of change moving forward. Ms. Cote brings the events in this book to a most satisfying conclusion. The epilogue is fantastic.”

Still a little mystery remains

A lovely story of best friends to lovers and drunk parent/abused child to redeemed and reconciled father/son. The mystery was not quite so successfully resolved, however. The criminals were arrested, but the motive for the kidnapping was never clear. The victim was expected to have some information, but what was never revealed. When it was clear that he didn’t have any idea what they wanted, the kidnappers changed their tactic to ransom. But I was left wondering what they were after and who the mastermind was since it was presumably someone much smarter than they all turned out to be. Virtual voice is adequate for narration but not for individual character voices.
