About this listen

It can safely be said that Lord Barnaby Greenwood is not having the best of Christmases.

He’s penniless, up to his eyeballs in debt, and about to lose his estate. Therefore, it’s hardly surprising that when a local property developer offers a lot of money to buy King’s Wood from him, Barnaby is very tempted. But his father had always impressed on him that the green wood was sacred and must be protected at all costs, so he finds himself saying no.

He knows this will result in the loss of his home, but duty comes before everything. However, that fateful decision leads instead to a magical Christmas for Barnaby, complete with an old god who grants him a favour, and a beautiful statue that comes to life.

Cosmo is perfect for him. He’s funny and kind and completely enraptured with Barnaby, and for the first time in his life, Barnaby falls in love. But how can this lead to anything but heartache, when on the last stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve, Cosmo will go back to being a statue and take Barnaby’s heart with him?

From best-selling author Lily Morton comes a truly magical romantic comedy.

Magical Xmas Feelings!

This was a sweet, low angst, fluffy, feel-good listen. As Cosmo comes to life each day he introduces Barnaby to a truly magical world. This was a different style from the author's usual work but I found it a nice break from reality and it put a smile on my face and made me feel warm and fuzzy. Joel Leslie is really great, as always, and the perfect choice to bring Barnaby and Cosmo to life!

A brilliant Christmas story...

brilliantly narrated by Joel Leslie again. I will read or listen to this tale of magic and love, or magical love, for many Christmases to come, hopefully. The story is exceptionally British, atmospheric and as always imbued with Lily's wonderful brand of humour and snark.

Amazing story! So beautiful and definitely worth a listen.

This book is absolutely magical! I love the nod to the old magic and beliefs of the druids and old England. This is a beautiful and magical book. Lily Morton knows how to spin a yarn. Barnaby is Lord Greenwood, the lord of his ancestral home and protector of the old growth forest around his village. His home is down on its luck though with money troubles and now someone wants to buy his home and the forest and tear it all down to build fancy homes for the idle rich. The Holly King though has heard Barnaby defend his home and the land and grants him a boone. Cosmo is one of the lovely statues in his home come to life. And they have 5 magical days together. And Cosmo has a mission to save the forest and Barnaby’s home. But their time is short and Barnaby doesn’t want Cosmo to leave at the end of their time together. This story is full of old magic and lots of love. The story within the story here is just as good as the one being spun between the two MCs. All the stars!!! You have to listen to this one. Joel Leslie is easily one of the best audiobook narrators out there and he always adds so much to every book he does. I honestly think he is at his best with Lily Morton’s stories.

Tears and Love Fairytale

I read this wonderful story of sadness, despair, laughter, loss of love and cried. Then at the end found a huge smile through my tears. For me it was a perfect story for Christmas and any day I need to be uplifted. Perfectly narrated.

Lyrical

I love everything she writes, but this one stole my heart. I read it just after the Christmas holidays, and Christmas tends to make me melancholy. If you are ever feeling sad, or as if the world is not a happy place, listen to this book or read it. It will restore your faith in life.

Another winner

Lily Morton and Joel Leslie have delivered yet again. There's nothing quite as good as an adult fairy tale with statues coming to life and bad guys choosing a better path. Then there's the delectable romance! I loved every minute of this audio book.

Loved this even more when listening!

I originally read the ebook but Joel Leslie's performance brought this story to life and made me love it even more!

The holidays are the perfect time to get lost in a magical, fanciful story!

Yes, you must suspend reality…but that’s one of the reasons I read…escape from reality. Who doesn’t want a magical creature to help you save your livelihood, your childhood home, and your heritage?

Cosmo is fun and adventurous which is exactly what Barnaby needs right now. He helps Barnaby live again and find joy in that life.

This is a quick, fun escape from reality at the best time of year!
