Publisher's summary

On the Edge is an engaging leadership manual that provides concrete insights garnered from various extreme environments ranging from Mt Everest to the South Pole. By reflecting on the lessons learned from her various expeditions, author Alison Levine makes the case that the leadership principles that apply in extreme adventure sport also apply in today's extreme business environments. Both settings require you to be able to make crucial decisions on the spot when the conditions around you are far from perfect. Your survival - and the survival of your team - depend on it. On the Edge provides a framework to help people scale whatever big peaks they aspire to climb - be they literal or figurative - by offering practical, humorous, and often unorthodox advice about how to grow as a leader.

Michael Vick

I want to say I am a dog lover and owner. I found it interesting that even after Michael Vick served his time (by the way dog fighting is still going on today) you still hold this against a mistake made in his 20’s against him. You also hold it against people who gave him a second chance.

What a great book!

This book combined the most interesting topics together (climbing and leadership) very well. Over the years, I found leadership books are boring and put me to sleep. Not this book!! It is captivating, funny, and to the point. Alison shared her most extraordinary experiences, yet very humbled. Then she combined it with leadership and teamwork. What a great idea!! Thank you for writing this awesome little book.

Fun, scary & funny

I didn't know what to expect with this book but was VERY pleased overall. It was fun, scary and funny all rolled up into a ball. The writer brings wit into some seriously hairy situations like I've never read before. All along through the book she creates legitimate learning & leadership skills from climbing mistakes & triumphs. I am no climber but feel like I was along side her as she ascends and descends mountains I wouldn't even think of climbing.

This book can be used for everyday joy reading, leadership training or just plain old lessons of owning your situation. I have no idea if more books are to come from the writer but if so I will be buying her next book for sure.

Cheers!

A very enjoyable and inspiring book

Alison was a keynote at a conference I attended recently and had this book ordered before she was even done speaking.

Must read

I am not one for picking up a book and listening to someone tell me how to be a leader. This book is far from that. The reason I appreciate it so much is because she actually gives examples from her life experiences and applies it to her professional career. I enjoyed this book very much!

Excellent teamwork, leadership, motivational book!

This book follows the trials Ms. Levine endured on her quest to climb Mt. Everest. It's an excellent resource for teaching leadership, teamwork, and persistence. It is humorous at times and she points out failing is a possibility but always learn from your mistakes. Ms. Levine is a woman we can all look up to.
