Go back in time to Bliss’ first happily ever after....

CIA Operative John Bishop arrived in Bliss, Colorado, seeking a respite from the high-stakes game of blood and lies that sent him to the worst corners of the world. A week playing the role of vacationing Professor Henry Flanders would recharge his batteries, especially if he found a gorgeous woman to occupy his time.

Nell Finn has spent her life focused on helping others, but when she meets the tall and mysterious Henry Flanders, she can’t stop imagining what he might do for her. When Nell and her mother are threatened, Henry comes to her, offering his protection and comfort.

But as the threats escalate out of control, Henry discovers that the beautiful and innocent Nell is much more than a plaything. Can he save the woman he loves without exposing the secrets that would drive her away?

Loved this story

John Bishop/ Henry Flanders is a CIA operative having a crisis of conscious..while he was trained to be an invisible killer for his government, he’s finding that he isn’t as fulfilled as he once was..so during a brief break from his operations, he decides to visit and old friend in Bliss..there, he meets the quirky Ms. Nell. Nell is a force to be reconned with all on her own. She’s passionate about..well, everything…the earth, recycling, animals, you name it and she will boycott, or protest it until it’s changed. The residents of Bliss, love and adore her and her mom. Both are lovely and kind women even if they’re a little nuts..and Henry is intrigued by Nell and the fact that she is a born submissive. This works perfectly with his Dom nature when it comes to women.

While Henry is desperate to get to know Nell better, he knows that their time is short lived..he has a whole life that she knows nothing about, and never will as far as he’s concerned. But before he leaves, he has to first deal with the threat currently hanging over Nell’s head. No one messes with his girl and lives to tell the tale.

Wow! It’s only the last book or 2 that you got to see that there was more to Henry than his Birkenstock wearing, tofu eating, protest on a daily basis self. Henry was a whole other person with a completely different mindset before Nell changed him. Watching his transformation was interesting…the question will be, can he keep his secret from Nell forever.

I love Bliss.

This is an amazing story. It was wonderful to look back and finally get to see how Nell and Henry meet. They have always been in the back ground and a big part of the Bliss family. We also got a look at all of our old favorites. ( Logan, Rye, Max ,Callie, Stef, Holly, and we got to see Laura’s arrival.) We also go to meet Logans best friend Seth. I can’t wait to read their story next. This was a enchanted visit to one of my favorite places. And the narration as always was impeccable.

Always a great time

This is a Bliss “prequel” and has some fun ties to the greater Lexi-verse. I like Nell more now. She’s honestly never been my favorite Bliss eccentric. Sweet story. Lexi never disappoints with this series. I love it. And always a treat when new ones come out. Please release the next one soon on Audible! I’ve been waiting on Logan’s book forever.

Wish This Had Been Earlier in the Series

I knew Henry Flanders was John Bishop from a previous book. What I never realized was Henry/John had this whole Alpha Dom personality. In previous Bliss books where Henry was mentioned, he was mostly giving off this older, shorter, professor type vibe. I always felt like Nell was older and frumpy.

I have a COMPLETELY different picture of this couple now. Going forward, Henry will be a taller, stronger, dominant, deadly version. (I did like the other Henry version too. That Henry no longer holds a place in my imagination.) Nell is younger, not frumpy, kind of sassy, and still slightly irritating with her protests.

I thought this book was funny. There was also a touch of suspense, a pinch of danger, and a sweet emotional scene with Henry and Nell.

I enjoyed all the quirky characters of Bliss. There were so many characters from previous Bliss books that had a part in Henry and Nell's story. The majority of the book was their relationship, and only a smaller portion had to do with the threat to Nell.

I listened to the audiobook. The narration was good. I only had maybe 2 moments when the female narrator was speaking and I couldn't distinguish between the characters speaking. It wasn't a major issue, just a bit disconcerting at that moment. On to the next Bliss book.
