Publisher's summary

Sydney Westbrook has had enough. After a fight with her abusive ex-boyfriend leaves her in the hospital once again, she knows it’s time for a change. Just out of college, Sydney decides to accept a position as a live-in nurse. But leaving the comfort of Atlanta and the support of her small circle of friends is hard to do. And when she meets her ailing, stubborn client, Sydney second-guesses all of her choices.

A Southern family with a social status to maintain, the McNamaras think very little of Sydney, especially since she reminds Mrs. McNamara so much of the daughter-in-law she never accepted. But when Sydney encounters Quinn, the defiant grandson, her views of the family begin to change. And her heart begins to heal the hole left behind by the abuse.

Sydney and Quinn may have little time together, but they make the most out of it. A public display of their relationship is short-lived when Sydney learns just how far her client will go to save her family’s namesake. And when Sydney’s past suddenly rips into her new world, her happiness with Quinn threatens to come to an end.

But truth and friendship will help Sydney finally live the life she’s chosen while loving the one she chose.

Romance served southern style

While I probably won’t listen to further books in this series, this romance features a sympathetic main character and some interesting supporting characters.
I rarely change the listening speed but ended up bumping it up to 1.3x due to the narrator who spoke slowly without much inflection.
Overall, there seemed to be a lack of quality and oversight to the recording that really distracted from the listening experience.
The narrator mispronounced several words. In one case, it was a word that was referenced multiple times.
Also, the end of chapter 7 was missing. I had to download the book via Kindle Unlimited to read about the incident that was referenced in chapter 8 that completely was missing from the audio. There could be other missing sections - this was just obvious. In another section, part of a random sentence is repeated.
So, if you are debating upon whether to read or listen to this book - definitely read. This recording and narrator does the story no favors.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

O.k.

I felt the writing portrayed Sydney much younger than her twenty-five years. I found it annoying because the instead of saying 'he' or' she', Sydney was repeated in each sentence. The flow was not fluid. I liked the characters of Sydney and Quinn. She was strong and intelligent.
The narrator was ok. I don’t think she was a good fit.
