About this listen
In the thousand-sun network of humanity's expansion, new colony worlds are struggling to find their way. Every new planet lives on a knife-edge between collapse and wonder, and the crew of the aging gunship, Rocinante, have their hands more than full keeping the fragile peace.
In the vast space between Earth and Jupiter, the inner planets and the Belt have formed a tentative and uncertain alliance still haunted by a history of wars and prejudices. On the lost colony world of Laconia, a hidden enemy has a new vision for all of humanity and the power to enforce it. New technologies clash with old as the history of human conflict returns to its ancient pattern of war and subjugation. But human nature is not the only enemy, and the forces being unleashed have their own price. A price that will change the shape of humanity - and of the Rocinante - unexpectedly and forever....

Story
The war raged across the galaxy. Billions had died, billions more were doomed. Moons, planets, the very stars themselves, faced destruction, cold-blooded, brutal, and worse, random. The Idirans fought for their Faith; the Culture for its moral right to exist. Principles were at stake. There could be no surrender. Within the cosmic conflict, an individual crusade. Deep within a fabled labyrinth on a barren world, a Planet of the Dead proscribed to mortals, lay a fugitive Mind. Both the Culture and the Idirans sought it....

Idris has neither aged nor slept since they remade him in the war. And one of humanity's heroes now scrapes by on a freelance salvage vessel, to avoid the attention of greater powers. After Earth was destroyed, mankind created a fighting elite to save their species, enhanced humans such as Idris. In the silence of space they could communicate, mind-to-mind, with the enemy. Then their alien aggressors, the Architects, simply disappeared - and Idris and his kind became obsolete. Now, 50 years later, Idris and his crew have discovered something strange abandoned in space.

The splintering of the Rocinante's crew.
Very dark and depressing. struggled to finish it because of that. still, the story is solid and the characters captivating. can't wait for tiamat's wrath.

Proto-molecule tech, ship combat and great pace
After some pretty slow moving plot in the last book the pace is now starting to increase.
The proto-molecule is the most interesting part of the story and they're expanding on it in interesting ways.
If you made it through the last book this one is definitely better and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it.

Series dialled back up to 11 with this one
I struggled with Cibola Burn, Nemesis Games re-energised me, Babylon's Ashes got the series back to great. Now Persepolis Rising is showing us the grand story arch the writers have been planning all along and I'm starting Tiamat's War right after submitting this review.

Maybe the best one yet
I find it hard to review books without giving spoilers so I'll just say that this is another awesome entry in the series, as the title says I think it might even be the best one so far. Can't wait for book 8!

What a pleasant surprise after the last two!
The two last books were trainwrecks in my opinion. They made so little sense and I was just getting worked up over all the inconsistencies in the plot and decisions of the characters.
So, I held up on this one, only late finally got to it. And what a PLEASANT surprise! This was genuinely good! Good story, and characters who made sense. Recommended!

Continued excellence
The expanse series takes me back to the best sci fi I’ve read over the last 40+ years. Brilliant dialogue, personalities, ideas, perspective. It’s very hard to find writing this good.

This is good. There is some greatness to come...
As a trilogy of trilogies can go, The Expanse has a wonderful knack of setting things up.
This exciting adventure, which ultimately leaves us wondering what the heck our suddenly meek heroes can do to stem the tide of inevitability, is in and of itself not going to shift the standing of either the series’ foreshadowings nor your predictions of what they might be. Rather, it promises something epic and entertains your socks off along the way.
If you like this series, keep at it. It does not disappoint.
