About this listen

Pitcairn's Island is the third and final novel in The Bounty Trilogy, a series of novels that describe the voyage, mutiny, and subsequent adventures of the officers and crew of HMS Bounty during its voyage from Spithead on the English Channel to Tahiti in the South Pacific.

On April 28, 1789, disaffected crewmen led by Lieutenant Fletcher Christian seized control of the Bounty somewhere about 30 miles south of the tropical island of Tofua. After putting the ship's captain and loyal members of his crew adrift on the Bounty's launch, Fletcher Christian led the crew to an uncharted island about 3,000 miles away.

In a narrative filled with the pathos of optimism and tragedy, the violent story of the mutineers comes to a close. The sole English survivor tells the final tale of the fate which overwhelmed the Bounty and her crew. It is a haunting tale that stretches across the centuries.

Critic reviews

“This vigorous, artistic narrative remains incontestably the finest account of the Bounty story, and since many others have tried to write of this famous ship and its misadventures, the accomplishment of Nordhoff and Hall was not trivial. A grand book.” – James A. Michener

Great story, masterfully presented.

Engaging and interesting follow up the central story, Mutiny on the Bounty. Presentation fitting the time and place.

Charlton Griffin had an amazing voice and reads the entire Mutiny on the Bounty series wonderfully.

The editing of this is poor. Charlton Griffin did a great job reading, but whoever edited it left in a few times he cleared his throat, or stopped and restarted.
