The zombies have escaped Zombie Park!

The plague has brought the dead to life and their hunger for the living is insatiable. The Zombie Park has been overrun and the dead have been unleashed upon the city, causing horrific deaths in their path. The spread of the plague seems to be unstoppable this time as it spreads across the Indiana border infecting the state of Illinois.

The public is now left to fend for themselves since all attempts to stop the zombie outbreak in Indiana have failed. It's a struggle to survive as survivors make their way to the local mall to find refuge as the growing horde surrounds it, threatening to take the mall for themselves.

Will the survivors be able to defend themselves? Will the government come to their aid? Can the military's smart zombies be effective against the walking dead? Will the mall remain intact? Can the zombies be stopped?

United States of Zombie?

This third book in the Z-Day Trilogy was actually better than the first two in my opinion. The writing is better and the story flows better. That being said, it is still not one of my favorites in the zombie genre.

The story continues after the city of Valparaiso, Indiana, has been decimated by a nuclear bomb dropped by the US government in order to stop the zombie apocalypse. Unfortunately, the bomb doesn't stop the Zompoc. (Why am I not surprised?). The villains of this trilogy continue to make bad decisions, focusing on developing smart zombies and zombie animals. Can that ever be a good idea?

If you can suspend your believability and just listen to this book for the campy horror flick feel, you will probably enjoy it. Be prepared for plenty of very descriptive deaths, plenty of blood and gore and nobody being safe. Personally, I prefer my fiction to be more character driven and this book just doesn't have that going for it. Every time that a character started to flesh out, they were killed and eaten by zombies.

The narrator, Persephone Rose, does a great job and his voices are wonderful. I found myself thinking that there were several narrators because of the seamless switch between the different voices. I would have probably given up on this series if not for his performance.

I would recommend this book (and this series) only for those who are true Zombie fans. If you like your Zompoc books to be like reading a screenplay for a movie, full of campiness and stupid characters (how many times do you open the door to the unknown before you realize it's a bad idea?), then give this series a try. It appears that there is another book in this series (even though it was sold as a trilogy), but I think I will find another series to read.

I was given a copy of the audiobook version of this book through Audiobook Boom! and chose to review it.

another great entry to this series

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

As with the other 2 books in the series, this book continues to be tongue-in-cheek and deliberately campy. It's entertaining and gory. The author really likes to try and make things unique and crazy. The narration by Persephone Rose continues to fit this series like a glove. It just matches the zany style the author has.

Smart Zombies

I struggled with this book, maybe because I hadn't read books 1&2 - so starting at book 3 maybe put me at a disadvantage.
That said it isn't a bad zombie book, lots of blood & gore, fast paced, the usual group of survivors vs hordes of zombies.
Narration kept pace with the high action pace of the story.
Yes I'd recommend this book to lovers of the .Zombie genre.

Amazing

This series has been amazing , lots of zombie action. Zombies eating creating horror. The author has done a fantastic job creating a world full of horror and zombies. The narrator brings everything full circle making the characters living and entertaining. This is a fantastic series to add to your library, each book is better than the one before.

Crazy horror test ride!

George Romero started it. This book takes off where those books left off. A vote fest to be sure. Run to it and hold your breath. You never know what's listening!

Mixed Feelings

I have mixed feelings about this title. As someone who is obsessed with apocalypses, not days or years after the event but the beginning stages, when all hell breaks loose, this pretty much had exactly what I was looking for. But the way the plague breaks free, while imaginative, was almost laughable, even after your suspension of belief. A zombie park? Really? And although the prose was extremely basic and often repetetive, there was something about it that still kept me listening. The narrator did a pretty decent job, though way too dramatic at times was still better than most. He did a great job at separating character voices for sure. It almost sounded like more than one person was reading the different parts.

This is definitely not a serious read. Something more along the lines of Mystery Science Theatre 3000. But an entertaining listen, nonetheless. I'd probably listen to more from this author.

*I was provided this audiobook free of charge by the narrator, author of publisher but in no way does it have an effect on my review.

Zombie Zoo Continues

You have to like zombie stories to enjoy the book as the gore and violence continues thru-out as zombies are still flesh eating characters (I liked the smart zombies who interacted and spoke as in book 1). In this book the animals have started to follow commands in the zoo and were going to help control the havoc in Indiana with little success and infection is now airborne. Waiting to see how the new zoo on island will work out. Great narration. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you
