Sometimes, dungeon cells aren’t so bad

I was hanging out with some buddies, doing a little caving, when everything went south. When I woke up, I was in some kind of medieval dungeon. Totally naked and in the dark.

Luckily, I had a neighbor in a cell near me. One with a decidedly sexy feminine voice. When she explained to me that she was due to be executed and I was in line to be brainwashed, there was only one thing to do.

We had to escape.

Now, I’ve never been a Houdini type or any kind of super warrior, but once I got a look at my fellow prisoner, I knew I had to help her get free. Now I’m fleeing through a monster infested hellhole called the Dreadlands with the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever met. Oh, and did I mention she has furry ears and a tail? Yeah. H-O-T!

This was just the start. I was hit rapid-fire with a bunch of other surprises. Starting with my magnificent fox girl being a priestess of a sex goddess. Uh-huh. Followed closely by the news that her fellow priestesses were being hunted to extinction. She needed my help.

Maybe, just maybe, I’d give this world a try before figuring out how to get back home.

This starts of pretty slow but that's due to setting up the world, how it's run, its problems, prejudices and prevailing attitudes. That's actually a lot to convey in a small amount of time. Kudos to Phil Aerix for doing this so well. Then you almost feel like the first sexy scene is forced on the story but nope, it's part of a ploy. A little later you're wondering why the sexy times haven't started yet and this time it's done to stoke the slow burn.
The story itself is very interesting. You can tell that the author put a lot into worldbuilding. I'd say he was successful in creating a vivid landscape with lots of dangers in both flora and fauna. I really enjoyed this book. The ending was really good as well and leaves you wanting and waiting for the next book now.

I don’t know exactly what did this book in for me. I have tried to get through it but I just can’t. The voices are pretty monotonous. As far as the story so far its chick and dude runs through woods naked and can never get clothes cause bad guys are not his size. And it’s the same cycle every 10 or 15 min. Couple runs, fights bad guys, no clothes, talk about sex or masturbation, then is attacked. Then they do it over and over. No particular incident is written well enough to pull the reader or listener in. Others may like this book, but I just couldn’t get into it.

I try and take it easy on the first and last book of any book as not every book makes it to the quote unquote the end and the beginning of anything cannot be a shaking endeavor. I enjoyed the story and I also thought that the narration team did a fantastic job. lastly I'm just going to say Well done to everybody who had a hand of bringing this story to us the audiobook listeners.

The very beginning of the book was a little rough. The voice of the other prisoner was a little too quiet, but after turns of events the book picked up fantastically and could not put it down. Was greatly paced and always felt the story flowed and was enjoyable.

I kept falling asleep and looked forward to going back to see what I missed. But somehow towards what I think is close to the end the MC turns into holier than thou super prude that doesn’t want the girls he is with doing anything sexual unless it only with him. I actually had to just say screw it an give up when he referred to over a 100 women around him self pleasuring as annoying. This is just like every other book out there for some reason the nerd beta male tries to find reasons to say no to anything and everything then says I know a normal guy would just go for it but. It makes you want to scream. In this writers mind there are 2 types of men. They are either really soft or drug women to get them in bed. Stop writing sexual books if sex makes you so uncomfortable. It’s a fantasy where anything can happen. Why over think everything little thing. It’s not building suspense it’s just frustrating that I paid real life money to hear about a guy constantly talking about his boner and never wanting to use it. The fox girl could sit on his face and he would find a reason to make her stop or the writer would stop it by introducing a fight scene just to frustrate the hell out of you. This whole book is look but don’t touch. When he has three girls in the middle of the wood with nothing to do but walk and sleep. It started great and the fox girl is so fun. The. Halfway it falls off a cliff.

update Giving this book another chance almost a year latter. By chapter 15 I completely understood why his soon to be wife left him for a guy that lives with his mother. I think that guy was at the very least manly and put out. I still don't understand why it is so popular to make the male characters so weak and uncomfortable in every situation. This is normal for a teenage boy until they get laid for the first time and then his national instincts kick in. It feels like most books of this type are written by girls trying to put the mind of a woman in a mans body. In real life by chapter 15 he would be in so much pain from blue balls he wouldn’t be able to trek through the woods. It feels like a giant has has your nut in a vise while punching you in your lower abdomen every time you move. Your body can deal with it with a wet dream or manual release. It happens when a man is hanging on the edge over and over again. Just getting a little excited through out the day wont do it.

as stated in the title the book is a little slow to start but the story picks up a couple chapters in. there's a fair bit of action and humor with some political strife added in. I thought both the narrators did great and given the chance Id listen to the second book to see where this story is going.

This was the first book i've read/listened to from Phil Aerix. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the story and detail of the book. Im really excited to see how this series progresses and anxiously awaiting book 2.

Charlie West and Summer Moon did a great narration of this story. From all the different characters and situations, to the story progression and just keeping the listener interested. all around, a great job.

Has both a good amount of spicy bits and plot. I like how it wasn’t too over the top. It’s set in a medieval setting which can be hard to pull off buts it’s well done here so props to the author.I highly recommend give this a try
