Publisher's summary
It's the best night of her life. It's the last night of her life.
Sixteen-year-old Jenna Harbough's parents had finally given in, and there she was, at a New York club with her best friends, watching the legendary band Avenue A, carrying her demo in hopes of slipping it to the guitarist, Jake Kincade. Then, from the stage, Jake catches her eye, and smiles. It's the best night of her life. It's the last night of her life.
Minutes later, Jake's in the alley getting some fresh air, and the girl from the dance floor comes stumbling out, sick and confused and deathly pale. He tries to help, but it's no use. It's time to call Lieutenant Eve Dallas.
Who could want this level-headed teen, passionate about her music, dead? Was she targeted or could she have been the victim of a random attack? And if she was, who's next.....?

Few people know the name Vesper Quill. To most folks, I’m just a lowly lab rat who designs brewmakers and other household appliances in the research-and-development lab at the powerful Kent Corp. I’m one placement away from becoming a fully fledged London detective. It’s bad enough that my last assignment before I qualify is with Supernatural Squad. But that’s nothing compared to what happens next. Brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, I wake up 12 hours later in the morgue - and I’m very much alive. I don’t know how or why it happened. I don’t know who killed me. All I know is that they might try again.

Susan Erickson does another great job
Bringing the In Death series characters to life each performance, Susan Erickson is one of the best narrators around. This was no exception.
You always know which character is speaking and Susan has built an impressive voice array for them.
Her ability, with just a slight change of tone, to show the many faces of Eve and Roark especially is amazing. I have laughed at her snark, drooped when she is weary and cried when she broke down.
This book was hard because there were children being targeted. A hard no for all our good guys.
JD Rob/Nora Roberts chose well. The baddie here is all the more frightening because of his age. Too many stories of abuse of young privilege in real life have abounded but this makes the story no less sad.
