Publisher's summary

"An extraordinary new series" (Book Reader's Heaven)

Three incredible journeys in the shadow of a revolution.

Distraught by the slaughter of his loved ones, Caleb embarks on a mission of revenge to the Tower of Elarion, a forgotten outpost on the Barrier Coast said to exist outside of time and space - and which Caleb believes holds the key to unlocking his inexplicable new powers.

With Caleb gone and Mala fleeing a deadly assassin from her past, Will agrees to lead a band of adventurers to recover the stolen Coffer of Devla. The last-ditch attempt to save the revolution takes Will, Yasmina, and their companions through a portal to Praha, the most dangerous city on Urfe: A place seething with thieves, monsters, and weird magic from another age.

And in New Victoria, unbeknownst to his brothers, eldest brother Val finds himself taken under the wing of Lord Alistair and ordered to perform a very important task: find the Coffer of Devla and secure it for the Congregation.

As the brothers’ lives on Urfe spiral further and further out of control, their individual journeys become a fulcrum for the fate of the Realm - and a forge that threatens to consume them.

Return of the Paladin Book 4

Return of the Paladin Book 4 of The Blackwood Saga continues this amazing series. It picks up where Book 3 left off which left many of our characters in a bad place, especially poor Caleb. This book has about 4 different stories going on for much of it and they consist of the story of Caleb with some help from the Brewer as he goes on his vision quest to find the mysterious tower and Mace within the tower so he can have his revenge on Alistair. The second story would be that of Will and his party who are on a quest to find the thief of the Coffer of Devla and to return the coffer to the revolution. The Third would be the story of Val who is also tasked with finding the Coffer but to give to Alistair and the congregation in return for saving his brothers and returning them to earth. The fourth would be Mala on her quest to get revenge for her parents death and to try to survive the most deadly assassin who has been sent after her and her weapon Mage lasher. Every story is pretty interesting and exciting and the end where a lot of our characters finally cross paths together is quite interesting with a surprise ending which leaves you waiting for the next book in the series.

The narration by Peter Berkrot is extremely well done throughout this whole series and he makes the journey very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this book and the series as a whole, they are all very entertaining, Layton Green has really written a great series and I can not wait to read the next book to see how things end up.

Best book so far!

Despite the slow beginnings of this series, this series just keeps improving! The story is fantastical in all the different facets. The evolution of characters is phenomenal. Just read it—do NOT read this without reading the previous books of the series, you will be so lost it’s ridiculous.

Parents—there are allusions to intimacy but nothing graphic. If this were a movie it would be R for violence and gore with the assumption that the director stays true to the descriptions. Please make this series a movie, it would be amazing!

Would like to listen to more

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. I found myself loosing track during parts of the book ( not focusing and my mind wandering), yet other parts kept my interest. Not sure if that was my issue or the segments of the books. This is the only book of the series I have listen to, so maybe that made a difference. I am still curious what happens next and what happens prior to this book.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Peter Berkrot ) and I would listen to another. I think he did well reading this book and offered us a variety of character voices. I enjoy spending books up and I have no issues doing that due to his clarity of speech. He definitely performs, not just reads the story.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing that I recall, however I did listen to this several weeks ago.
