About this listen

Kris Young is no normal 17-year-old. She's the worst thing to come along since the black plague, and she will do anything to alter the destiny she was made for.

Failure is not an option. And if the shadows of evil overcome her...only one person can stop her.

When she meets Micah, she doesn't expect him to save her life, or to offer his help. They were born enemies after all. Though he boasts noble intentions and a belief that, together, he and Kris could swing the tide of the war to the side of good once and for all, Kris can't help but suspect that he is hiding something. They have a plan....

Strengthened by new allies, Kris and the gang take their fight to the Skotadi. As they discover shocking secrets and grow closer to learning of the evil-doers' ultimate plans, Kris worries that time has run out. Struggling with her inner demon, she does the only thing she can to protect the ones she cares about most, even if it tears her heart in two.

Question is, where will her heart lead her?

This is the second audiobook in the Ignited series. Sacrificed continues the journey of Kris, Nathan, Alec, and Callie as they set out on an adventure to alter destiny. Lasting friendships are formed, lives are changed, romance sizzles, and hearts are broken in this exciting follow up to Ignited.

Exciting doesn't even cover it.

Exciting doesn't even cover it. This book kept me up late for a few nights and invaded my dreams. Even better than book 1.

Somewhat misogynistic so buyer beware

As a woman, and the mother of a young woman I found some of the wording and dialog between male and female characters to be stereotypical and misogynistic. Sometimes male characters seemed to gaslight female characters. The main character is high school age and is portrayed as being very concerned with her appearance, what others think of her, the way her actions are perceived by others, and what boys think of her. This is NOT how ALL high school students are. There is a lot of talk about being embarrassed, blushing, etc. The author definitely tries to portray a strong young woman but falls short. The plot is engaging. It is just how the characters interact that bothered me. I have no problem with Nathan’s and Kris’s age difference. I get that some young people ARE “boy/girl crazy” and I know in 2024 all the young people I am around frequently are more relaxed being around one another and are less concerned with how others perceive them compared to whether or not they are happy with themselves. I listened to the first in this series, and this, the second. I am going to listen to the third with the hope that Desni Danton’s writing improves to allow her characters to break free of stereotypes.

Light but fun and fast paced

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

This is definitely written for teens, it's a YA book - so that shouldn't surprise anyone. Some are more geared towards adults as well though, and this wasn't one of those. Once I was able to get past the overly dramatic love story though - I enjoyed the book, and there were enough of those tantalizing cliff hangers that I definitely want to know what happens next.

What about Lisa Larsen’s performance did you like?

Lisa's crisp clean read helped me lose myself in the story, easily distinguishable characters and a pace set to keep me on the edge of my seat. She's got the perfect voice for the main character, enough fresh voiced innocence to fit with the life she'd led before discovering what she was, but with an increasing edge as the story moves forward and her character develops.

Read this book, don't listen to it!

I read the first book in the series on my kindle and loved it! I was caught up in the story and didn't want to take a break. I bought the audible version of the second book and immediately regretted it. The narrator puts inflections in the wrong places. She sounds like she is reading an elementary book. I plan on continuing the series but not through audio again! Maybe its one of those things that when you have an idea of how it is supposed to be in your head, someone else's idea just doesn't fit.
