Awesome entry in the Savaged Earth series. As with the others very well written story with top notch narration.

A little disappointed.

Felt a little phoned in compared to the other books in the series. For example, there did not seem as much good character building for the new characters as when new characters were introduced in previous books. The story felt rushed.

Can you go home? Would it be a dream or nightmare?

A little over a year ago I listened to the first three books in the Surrender the Sun series and got sidetracked from listening to the last two books in the series by competing obligations. Today I was offered a choice of an audiobook review copy by A.R. Shaw, and my first choice was the fourth book in the Surrender the Sun series. Luckily, a copy was available.

Once I loaded the book into my library I couldn’t resist listening and put everything else aside for the afternoon. I immersed myself in the post-apocalyptic frozen world where Ben, Bishop, Jax and the rest of the community exist. Even with the prolonged delay in following the story I found myself immediately drawn back into the Colorado community and each of the characters’ lives like there had been no delay. While this story is not wall-to-wall action, there is plenty of action and intrigue to keep the listener/reader engaged. There are also plenty of interpersonal stories going on that build a sense of anticipation and drive the story forward to its conclusion. Based on my enjoyment of my afternoon’s entertainment, I doubt it will be another year before I listen to or read Feral Earth or Rough Earth, the final books in the series. Along with an excellent storyline, Jordan Gibbs narration brought each character to life and made listening to the story an excellent experience. I will be looking at more stories Jordan has narrated once I finish this series.

Great Story, poor narration

Enjoyed the story but the narration was infantile so I half listened through the story and would listen to the book again but I don’t think I could handle one more round of being read too as if I was ten years old.

Could not finish.

As a huge fan of A. R. Shaw, I'm sorry I couldn't finish this. Primary reason - the narration. While it's probably not fair to have such a poor narrator follow the other three books beautifully read and dramatized by Kevin Pierce, Jordan Gibbs was way out of his league. He is far better suited to read teenage and children's books. He has no emotional or performance range and I was embarrassed for him. It was like listening to an elementary teacher read to the class. I can't finish the book. Sure hate that since I've listened to all this author's work. Kevin Pierce is a big reason I even buy an Armageddon book.

Worthy!

I really enjoyed this story in the STS saga. there are lots of nuances regarding not only survival but the history of mankind wrapped in sequences. Very, very good!

Narrations horrible! I could not finish this book unfortunately.

I really didn't even want to rate the storyline because I just could not follow the storyline due to the poor narration. I really hope that they go back and have these renarrated. I absolutely fell in love with these characters and the storyline in books one through three. Kevin Pierce is who I was expecting when I purchased book four. I should have checked, but I didn't, my bad. The narration just cannot be listened to or followed. The guy is way out of his league. Unfortunately for me I guess this series will just have to end at book three. I do not suggest you purchase it if you've listened to books one through three. Book 4 will be sorely disappointing to you. The remainder of the books in this series are also narrated by this guy and therefore I won't be purchasing anymore books in this series unless they have them renarrated by somebody that knows what they're doing. hopefully Kevin Pierce, But if not him, anyone that can listen to the first three books and then try to stick with the same narration style and strength. very disappointing...

Great story, but disliked narrator

I loved the first 3 books in this series and was excited to start this one. Unfortunately, I really struggled with the narrator and couldn't finish. Luckily, I found another series by this author that is narrated by Kevin Pierce. I'm sure that one will be great.

Terrible. A total disappointment.

I absolutely loved the first 3 books. They were what I love in a great dystopian read. I can not fathom how the author could not remember what he wrote previously and then contradicted in the continued series.
