About this listen

This special box set edition of The Borrowed World Series contains the full text of books 1-3 of the best-selling series: The Borrowed World, Ashes Of The Unspeakable, and Legion Of Despair. This series has garnered tens of thousands of 4 and 5 star reviews.

If society fell apart, could your family survive? Jim Powell thought he was ready. He was a regular guy who travelled a lot for work and hated every second he was away from his young family. But when ISIS operatives unleashed a coordinated attack on America’s infrastructure, his entire world shattered. The electrical grid collapsed, communication networks were damaged, critical bridges and dams were destroyed, and major fuel refineries have gone up in massive fiery clouds.

Now, with an Executive Order halting fuel sales to the public, Jim Powell finds himself in a terrifying predicament. He's trapped hundreds of miles away from his family, and with thousands of stranded travelers and scarce law enforcement across the country, the miles between Jim and his family become a brutal gauntlet where the rules of a civilized society no longer apply.

Jim is a prepper with years of planning under his belt, but as he puts his preparations to the test, he soon finds that training for a societal collapse is very different from actually experiencing one. If Jim wants to make it back to his family in one piece, he'll need to find the strength and brutality to meet this new, dangerous world head-on—even if it means rising to unimaginable levels of violence.

Downloaded over 100,000 times, The Borrowed World is a series that you'll find yourself listening to more than once.

the negative reviews clinched it for me.

Reading why the single-star reviews didn't like this series convinced me that I would enjoy this story.

Good, albeit preposterous in parts

I like prepper fiction, and because I have lived through a few crises, I am keenly aware how quickly you can unexpectedly find yourself on your own. Unlike the last post-apocalyptic book I read (Traveler series), the author here tries to stay more grounded and realistic. He overdoes the "danger behind every rock" theme (especially nearing the conclusion of book 3) but overall I really enjoyed the story.

The doomsday scenario is plausible but unlikely as depicted in the book. Our risk of grid failure is far more likely to occur via an EMP or solar flare. The fiction here also presupposes a complete absence of ally countries coming to our assistance.

The narrator has the perfect voice for this type of fiction, but his repertoire of available voices is fairly limited.

Great spin on the end

The other painted a great picture in the narrator as I always did a great job. Realistically I do believe all things in this book are very possible unfortunately. It’s not too over the top but it’s definitely a nailbiter at times. Great book looking forward to the next box set !!

Engaging story and characters

First of all, I love this narrator. He really brings the story to life. The storyline and characters are very engaging and it really makes you consider your own preparedness and resolutions.

How real and scary this situation could really get if this does happen. I was left horrified and yet hopeful.

Nothing I disliked about this series. It is really good and makes me want to get prepared.

The possibility of this type of occupancy actually happening and how quickly the human condition can deteriorate

Even in the very worst of times humans need the connection of others both in community, friends, and intimacy. Hope in the next books in this series have these necessary connections.
