Publisher's summary

Mercy Callahan thought she'd escaped the cult decades ago, but its long fingers are reaching out for her again in this electrifying novel in the Sacramento series by New York Times best-selling author Karen Rose.

Seventeen years ago. That was the last time Mercy Callahan saw Ephraim Burton, the leader of the twisted Eden cult where she was raised. But even though she escaped the abuse and terror, they continue to haunt her.

When her brother Gideon discovers new evidence of the cult's - and their victims' - whereabouts, Mercy goes to Sacramento to reconnect with him. There, she meets Gideon's closest friend - homicide detective Rafe Sokolov. From Rafe, she receives an offer she never knew she needed: to track down Ephraim and make him pay for everything.

But Ephraim, who had thought Mercy long dead, discovers she is in fact alive and that she is digging around for the cult's secrets. And now he'll do anything to take her back to Eden - dead or alive.

Great story!

I don't know why people didn't like the narration. I thought it was very well done. Many different people but each voice was distinct. I could relate to this story because my sister was kidnapped and brainwashed by a cult. Her story is very much like Mercy's, though not as brutal. This story is very realistic for the most part and has a happy ending just like my sister had.

I now like the narrator!

First off, this is another great book by Karen Rose! I don’t know what more to say about her writing other than that all of her books are gripping, great stories.

When I listened to the first book in this series, Say No More, I hated the narrator because he gave the female protagonist a voice like a haughty drag queen. It was a poor choice and made that book tough to listen to. When I saw that the same narrator was used for the 2 remaining books in the series, I hesitated to use credits on these books. But, I still wanted to hear more of the story. I was so glad I did! This book was a great listen! The voices he gave these protagonists were great and I found myself lost in the story rather than focused on the voice of the narrator!

Hard to put down.

This was one of those rare books that I could hardly put down. It grabs you from the first chapter.

Survival and recovery

I loved Mercy's courage and truth. Finding family and trust are amazing, forgiveness of self and those who never meant hurt is a triumph.

Another great read

In my opinion, this was a great story with a very good narrator. I have no reason to criticize his narration.

Can’t wait

My mind is still spinning. Another outstanding suspense/thriller from Karen Rose. The narrator is AMAZING! The accents! Russian, Southern, Cajun were perfect. I love how the narrator changed his tone, accent or pitch for each character. I had no problem following along and knowing which character was speaking and if you know Karen Rose novels there are lots of characters. I LOVED IT! Karen you nailed it and Joel you knocked it out of the park!!!

Karen Rose never lets me down!

I love the connections and continuations of her books. But it kills me to not know what's next or when the next book will be released. On the downside, the narrator did a terrible job with the voices. If I didn't like KR so much, I may have returned the book.

I'm hooked! But a little upset at the same time.

I'm upset that the cops and FBI agents are so terrible and unprepared for this type of work. In the first book a radio personality was a better shot than the trained professionals. In this book more of that. I love you the story and I'm hooked. But cops are more prepared than they were in this book. It keeps you sucked in but I really wish they didn't make the cops and FBI so incompetent.
This is m second time listening in a year. It's still a great book. And Joel Froomkin is a great narrator. I hated him in the first book because of his creepy factor. But overall he did a great job. I knew who was who, and that's not an easy thing to do, especially when there's multiple people (men & women) done with accents. He's great.
