Publisher's summary

Kevin Ryan is a writer in the much-maligned genre of true crime who desperately needs a devious, over-the-top story for the subject of his next book. How else can he keep his wife Valerie’s roots dyed and keep himself from handing out taco samples at the local supermarket?

When Kevin isn't Googling himself or spot checking his books' stock at stores around the country or online, he’s bringing the hazards (ie, criminals and other crazies) of his job home to wife Val and twin daughters Taylor and Hayley. Kevin is on the hunt for the big one, the story that could break him out of the mid-list and onto the bestseller lists. And then there’s a knock at the door - a story finds him...

A distraught 20-year old Jett Carter shows up at the Ryan house because her mother and sister are imprisoned - perhaps if Kevin writes their story and reveals the truth, he might help exonerate them. The Carters' tale is the perfect white-trash-attempted-murder-love-triangle that Kevin’s editor will love and his fans will devour. He begins to write "Love You to Death."

Then on a beautiful summer day, the wheels of homicide are set in motion and Kevin’s own story begins to eclipse the crime he is chronicling. When his #1 fan is murdered and another body turns up, the Ryans’ life in Port Gamble and all that Kevin holds dear is in jeopardy. Somewhere in "Love You to Death" and within the "bunch of low rent losers" he's interviewing is the killer.

Shocking Is Right!!

I LOVED this book! True Crime wrirlter searching for info to write his book ends up stumbling across a fresh murder. He's blamed for the murder. Was he set up? Did he do it? Everyone is not who they appear to be in this page turner! Definite 5 stars from this fan!!

Awesome...I'm just saying

Where does Shocking True Story rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Right at the top.

What other book might you compare Shocking True Story to and why?

I don't like to compare authors because everyone has their style. I WILL say that I am quickly becoming a fan of Gregg Olsen.

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

OMG! Kafer made this book so much more exciting with his style of narrating. The inflections in his voice as he read made the book come alive. Listening to him read was like sitting in the coffee shop listening to him talk. It was so authentic, and the way he brought the characters to life was remarkable. I hated when I had to get out of my car because I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely, but hey obligations to life doesn't permit that right?

Any additional comments?

I'm definitely going to buy more Gregg Olsen books and I'm definitely going to look for books narrated by Jeffrey Kafer. The two of them together make an excellent team.

Waste of time.

I understand why the price was discounted. Author has written much better stories, this was big disappointment.

OK Olsen

Story too contrived, but some of writing was very funny. I would go with another Olsen book.

What is surprisingly awesome book!

Great, now I have Joan Jett song I don’t give a damn about my bad reputation playing in my head. This book was so good and head funny moments in it. Who knew Greg Olsen had such a great sense of humor. Before reading this book I really admired and respected his work. After reading this book I know really like Greg Olsen. I also really like that it was told in the first person and that he had a great relationship with his wife. What more can I say then this book is very interesting if you like true crime and a laugh every now and then you will love this book. If you just like being entertain, you will love this book. This is a side of Greg Olsen I never thought I would say and I’m so glad I did. I really also enjoyed the narrator he had such a natural flow to his reading and made it easy to believe it was his story he was telling. This whole book was totally enjoyable.
