Publisher's summary

I began my adult life as a fur trapper in the Rocky Mountains. I would spend the dead of winter with the Crow Indians. I earned the name "Shows No Mercy" among the Crow for my legendary fights with the Blackfoot, their worst enemy.

I try to explain to the Crow that their way of life is doomed because of the westward tide of immigrants who will not try to live with the Crow as I had, but would push them from the land as though they never existed. This had already happened to the Native Americans east of the Mississippi River.

Elan, the Crow chief, gave me a fortune in gold nuggets. I took him to St. Louis and showed him "civilization" and what the gold could buy. He instructed his grandson Lance to make sure that I never ran out of the "yellow stones".

This is the story of one man's frustration in trying to help those who did not wish to be helped. Mostly they could not conceive of the coming of White immigrants until it was too late.

SUFFERIN SUCATASH!

It’s a daily good book, J Rodney Turner does a great job reading the novel, there is not much acting of ech characters part but it is a very good success story about one man’s ability to turn young folks lives around and be something, It to me is good enough to read book 2, I do believe you shall enjoy this one.

The Batman of the old west

Would you try another book from Roger Erickson and/or J. Rodney Turner?

Not if it is similar to this one

Has Shows No Mercy turned you off from other books in this genre?

Just from this author

What aspect of J. Rodney Turner’s performance would you have changed?

Seems like he only has two voices - Batman and the old Miner (howdy, howdy, howdy!!)

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Shows No Mercy?

I would have suggested that the main character “Shows no Mercy” not be written as the most loyal, Pope like, non-racist, native American loving, women protecting, best trapping-est most handsomest frontiersman, while still being the best shooting, knife throwing, hard punching protector of the weak. To top it off I would have suggested not making his mule like Robin to complement his Batman persona. I was expecting to hear a story that would actually portray what it might be like to be a frontiersman living in 1820’s. Instead I got an unrealistic portrait of “Frontiersman” and his Mule sidekick “Kicky”.

Any additional comments?

Whiteman like large yellow stones? Me give stones to Shows no Mercy,
You Ma ma ma make me happy!
