Wow-I wasn't expecting THAT twist!

Would you consider the audio edition of Sin to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print version of Sin, though I would expect that I would likely enjoy the audio version better because Joe Hempel really brought the characters to life through his narration.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the twist. It isn't often that books/novellas truly surprise me. This one did. I was driving in my car, listening, and I literally gasped out load at one point. That just made me happy. So refreshing that it wasn't completely predictable.

Which character – as performed by Joe Hempel – was your favorite?

I think Joe Hempel did a fabulous job with making each of the characters unique, but I really enjoyed listening to him read the old lady's lines. The voice that he did for her...I could totally envision her in my mind's eye.

If you could rename Sin, what would you call it?

I actually think that Sin is the perfect title for this novella.

Any additional comments?

I know that this is a novella and thus, shorter than a regular, full sized novel. It was definitely entertaining and well worth the listen. It felt a tad rushed at times, but in the same respect, I don't think that much else could have been added to the story without it being extra fluff.

Sin

Any additional comments?

This is a very good novella. It's about a teen couple, Ryan and Zoe, who decide to go camping, only for it to rain on them, so they leave and stumble on a mysterious house with an odd couple. The narrator did a great job bringing the characters and story to life.

Good but Short Horror

I really enjoyed this horror thriller it was dark and suspenseful. Ryan and Zoey are teenagers who were out camping until it started out raining and sought out refuse in old house then it all started, but wish it was longer. Narration was good. Recommend to anyone who enjoys short horror.I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. THANK YOU!

A Horror Story With Plenty Of Twists And Turns.

“Sin” is an excellent, fast-paced, short horror story. The story takes place in small town nowhere. It revolves around two high school students, Zoe and Ryan. The mother of one of their classmates is already missing when the story begins, but they are such typical bored teenagers that the fact that something wrong is going on in their town doesn’t even register to them as a red flag. Zoe and Ryan set up appropriate lies and sneak away from their homes to go camping in the woods over the weekend. Everything camping related goes wrong? A terrible storm hits and a bad flood occurs. The two end up running for shelter. They soon come across the clichéd, isolated, ominous house in the woods. And thus, the stage is set. Author, Patrick Reuman made sure his characters had never seen a horror movie in their lives because Zoe and Ryan make every horror movie mistake there is to make.

With all that being said, “Sin” still offers a bunch of twists that move the story along in spite of all the bad horror movie decisions. Add the masterful narration provided by Joe Hempel and you have a short story that is definitely worth your time. Finally, this audiobook was provided by the narrator at no cost in exchange for an honest review, courtesy of Audio Book Boom.

Needs More

Clearly, with a short story there will be limited story development. Understanding that, there is plenty of early development. The problem is that the ending is rushed. So much happens throughout the story, some of which was inconsequential, that to have it end so abruptly is disappointing. The story overall is pretty good, with some ironic elements that make it fun. The ending, which isn’t bad, just underdeveloped, costs the story a full star.

Joe Hempel is a very good narrator. He just seemed a bit limited with this story. I have enjoyed his work in the past, but he just seemed to have less to work with and wasn’t able to showcase his talent as much.

Scary Suspenseful Horror Novella!!

This is a really great horror novella from Patrick Reuman. Two teenagers planning a Friday night camping trip into the woods. What could go wrong? Have they never watched a horror movie? There is a classmates mother who is missing as well in the small town they live in adding to the drama and tension. The weather turns bad and low and behold there is a isolated house in the woods. Nothing bad ever happens to kids in houses in the woods; well maybe Hansel and Gretel, but any way it is a really well written story with many twists and turns. I loved it.

The narration is delivered by the amazing Joe Hempel. He delivers another outstanding performance in this fun story. This is a story that will stick with you and his voice will be the one that haunts you when you think of this story.

SO SCARY ON SO MANY LEVELS!

Any additional comments?

Rarely am I surprised when reading a horror book; they usually seem to follow the same trajectories, with similar characters and predictable endings. However, "Sin" was delightfully different. Not only did this story have a trajectory I haven't seen before (boyfriend and girlfriend decide to go camping nearby the boyfriend's house) but it had twists that I absolutely could not anticipate. The book is so good, in fact, that if I reveal any more I run the risk of spoiling things for new readers. So I will simply say: "Sin" is an excellent, short horror book that I would *highly* recommend to anyone who enjoys horror/suspense/mystery/thrillers. Joe Hempel gives a fantastic performance, as always. 10/10!
