Publisher's summary

The long-dreaded war between Britain and France has finally begun. French soldiers have landed on English soil, and the British Army - and the Royal Sorcerers Corps, led by Lady Gwen - is moving to meet them. But when an inexperienced major disobeys her orders and sends two hundred hussars to their deaths, Gwen accidentally uses her magic to permanently damage his mind and sparks a political crisis at the worst possible time.

In the aftermath of the battle, Lord Mycroft suggests she leave Britain and head to the North American colonies, where British forces are anxiously awaiting a French offensive. The local sorcerers have been poisoned, the local government is barely keeping the colonies under control, the slaves are mutinous and revolution against the crown is brewing. The few locals with any known magical talent are untrained and certainly not ready for combat, but - if they can be trained in time - they may be all that stands between the colonies and defeat.

Accompanied by Irene Adler and Raechel Slater-Standish, agents of the British Crown, Gwen heads to North America. But it may be too late to save the colonies from a disaster that has been long in the making....

In Sons of Liberty, Gwen is sent from the relative safety of London to the colonies, where an undercurrent of revolution still abounds and intrigue and espionage are essential to keep the enemy at bay. But who exactly is the enemy?

Christopher Nuttall delivers more fun

this is series develops as most of Christopher Nuttall other series do. a few unexpected details and a few subverted expectations, but otherwise the fun romp I have come to expect from this author.

One of the things I enjoy about Christopher Nuttall's work is the way it highlights the injustices of society. Even as a Libertarian who has no time for social justice Warriors or any of that, ahem, dreck, the rich and sensitive depiction of the effect of social forces on women, minorities, and all other disenfranchised peoples helps me to be aware of such things in my everyday life around me. So thank you Chris, for making it easier to be the sort of person I want to be every day.

Not cleverly written at all.

Time and time again, the MC gets into trouble and only survives because the writer is writing like this is a Saturday morning cartoon series.

Besides the constant complaining about being a woman and being looked down upon by everyone. (Which 98% of that is all in her head. Because a vast majority of men characters she meets, DON"T CARE!) Our MC is a tactical simpleton!

Time and time again, she mentions the best course (the safe way) of doing things, thennnnn DOES THE EXACT OPPOSITE.

She mentions snipers and being pulled out the air by other 'magicians' (Who I am seeing more as Psionic than 'magical') Then, always manages to fly STRAIGHT UP for snipers and other magicians to pull out the air!!!! Like the idea to float a few inches off the ground moving from cover to cover rapidly through low flight, NEVER crossed her mind. SMGDH.

Then talks about working better with teams, THEN RUNS OFF by HERSELF all the time and gets worked over! SMGDH.

It goes on and on and on. Everytime she mentions the best way to do something, you better believe she is about to ignore her own advice.

And for the last time... this "I better be do my best to be perfect at everything, or the 'MALES' are going to look down on me," troupe is realllyyyy getting OLD!!!!! Because again, the only males that seem to want to use that against her, are the two or three men who don't like her anyway. The rest, DON'T CARE. So where and why does she bring it up like its all men who are waiting for her to trip up and fail? Which by the way, she does a lot anyway by ignoring her own advice! Yet, the world of 'MALES' didn't come crashing down on her. In fact, they came and picked her up over and over again, without complaint. Yet, every 5 paragraphs for 4 books straight, she would rant about how she must do well or the "Males' will look down on her. SMGDH.

Chick, you are effed in the head! Your insecurities about your situation are CLEARLY all in your skull.

But worse than all of the above, is when the author deliberately doesn't use the available Magic/Psyhic talents of the main character when the situation clearly calls for it. You are forced to sit there frustrated as you read the open pile of manuer as the author attempts to write around a simple available solution to the current problems the MC is facing.

You see that the Character is constantly asking herself whether this person in front of her is a danger to her or trustworthy or telling the truth, all the while NOT USING her ability to read minds and just FIND THE bleep OUT!

Its SOOOOOO FRUSTRATING!!!! And read FAKE as all bleep.
