Publisher's summary

Deep in the mountains of Appalachia, a legend is told about something evil that lurks within the dense woods of Gunrack Holler. A witch is said to live there - one whose appetite for innocent souls dates back hundreds of years.

Sam Fletcher had heard the story his whole life, but he never really believed it. After all, as his father always said, it's just an old folktale...only a story.

But two years ago, something happened that made him believe.

I loved this story and the narrator was fantastic

I love Appalachian horror and this story was a home run! One of the scariest witch stories ever! Leave a light on while listening to this one!

A Gnarly Witch Story

This is a good time. It’s rare to find a story about a mean, evil, spooky witch, and this has two of them! If you like gnarly, warted old crone witches with demonic minions fighting for the souls of innocents, and the odd zombie, this one’s for you.

Entertaining all the way through!

Tony Evan's is truly a gifted writer and storyteller! An enthralling story that strikes an unearthly feeling into your gut. Not a dull portion of the plot. Mr. Butler also does a great job of narrating and practically speaks the story onto a canvas.

A fresh, entertaining, and well written horror story!

I had a great time with SOUR! Tony Evans has crafted himself a niche of sorts with his modernized and gory take on traditional horror folklore. This is easily of the most inventive and original witch stories I’ve ever read /listened to! Although Tony Evans’s collection, BETTER YOU BELIEVE, had stories catered to a wide demographic, SOUR is most certainly made for an older audience. The author doesn’t hold back on the bloodshed and language, a creative choice that I’m always a huge fan of. Apart from having a clean and concise writing style, Evans does a great job fleshing out the small cast of characters we encounter. You really start to care whether or not the main lead and his friend will come out of their “situation” unscathed. What I loved most, however, was how unpredictable the plot was. The story starts of one way, but goes in several entertaining directions. Evans also jumps between present day and past events at just the right moment. Michael Butler did a phenomenal job with the narration, doing his best to really make each character sound like a different person. It’s honestly the best voice acting I’ve heard in quite some time. My only gripe is with the pacing, which was rather slow towards the beginning. The plot gets dark and very intriguing shortly after, though, so it’s a minor critique. Overall, I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a horror story with fresh ideas, or are just in the mood for some well done, gory fun. Tony Evans does not disappoint, and his extremely polished writing style is one that I always love seeing in indie horror. 4.5 stars, and 5 out 5 rounded up on Goodreads.
