About this listen

St. Benet's is a gripping crime thriller, the second in a chilling series of serial killer books, ones which will rapidly convert followers of Faith Martin, Joy Ellis and Damien Boyd into David Blake devotees.

When the body of an old man is found lying in the ruins of St Benet’s Abbey, his throat cut, a knife resting in his open hand, DI John Tanner and DC Jenny Evans are given no choice but to accept a ruling of death by misadventure.

But when the body goes missing from its tomb, after a priest is found nailed to a cross, and another impaled on a stake, everything begins to point back to the murder of a teenage girl, thrown from the top of a church tower, some 43 years before.

Set within the mysterious beauty of the Norfolk Broads, this fast-paced British detective series is a murder mystery with a slice of humour and a touch of romance, one that will have you guessing until the very end.

Another Great Story

Another great storyline, very interesting you can just never pick who it is, then the last chapters you are drawn into the climax of the story. Again Jonathan pulls you right into the storyline great narration.

Performance is stellar!

Another outstanding mystery with great characters, interesting plot, and wonderfully interesting locale. The plot was intricate but not confusing.

Excellent!

Another great addition to the series. A solid British police procedural with undercurrents of a developing romantic relationship. Excellent narration.

The dumbing of Tanner

Much worse than the first Tanner. why’d Blake turn his crack DI into a whipped dimwit? And why have plot twists grown only from inexplicably bad decisions that jump shark after shark? This book’s a mediocre waste of a credit. Yawn!

I had such high hopes

I found this series after bingeing through everything Peter Grainger and Charles Todd have written. The fist sound of the narrator voice was music to my ears. But the story and character development just don’t measure up. I admit I’m spoiled but will move on in my quest. Sorry.

Narration and story both great. Very glad to find a talented new author. Hopefully this will be a long series.

Missing

Listened. To two books by this author found something lacking in these stories to many things happen a bit over the top and not believable

Snarky, grisly, twisty

romantic-suspense, Norfolk-broads, series, serial-murder, torture, grisly, crime-fiction, retribution, thriller, attempted-murder, twisted, contemporary, divorced, local-law-enforcement, procedural, police-detectives, boats, vintage-auto, investigations, due-diligence, snarky, banter, audiobook, strong-characters, fast-pace, British-detective, unputdownable, Catholic-churches, clergy****

It's still a real winner in the investigation and plot twist arena but the bed hopping between members of the same force seemed unnecessary to me. There is a new DCI for cause and a replacement for the DI who was killed off in Broadland but the crew is much more cohesive now.
Tanner still lives on that boat without running water.
The victims who are tortured and murdered are all Roman Catholic clergy but trying to find the real thread that you know is there, that they are definitely not random, is a tough slog.
The red herrings are sneaky, but the plot twists are beyond diabolical. I'm re-evaluating how I feel about this series but will try the next one.
The audio is performed by Jonathan Keeble is basically terrific but does get a mite dramatic sometimes.
