About this listen

Everything Caelan knows about his world is a lie.

A war is brewing. As the crown prince of Erya, it’s only natural that Caelan is sent on a secret diplomatic mission to support one of the kingdom’s allies. With his advisor, his bodyguard, and his best friend as traveling companions, what could go wrong?

Everything.

Everything goes wrong.

Now they are on the run, dodging assassins, setting secret meetings, and even making deals with a sleeping god.

So this is probably a really bad time to cave to feelings he’s been fighting for his best friend. But Drayce has owned his heart for more years than he can count, and if he’s going to die, shouldn’t he have just one kiss?

The fate of the world is on the line, and only Caelan holds the power to save them all.

Steal the Wind is the first book in the six-book Godstone Saga fantasy series and is not a stand-alone. The story contains explosions, secrets, cranky gods, hidden romance, a prince on the run, a possessive ex-boyfriend, magic, and lots of delicious angst.

woah, love it.

I absolutely love Jocelynn Drake in everything, but this...it's like Robert Jordan with a queer baseline and I AM HERE FOR IT.
I can already tell that I will miss both sleep and personal engagements because of this series.
if high fantasy with gay main characters sounds like it is in your wheel house then give the Godstone series a try. You will not regret it.

Great adventure

It does end on a cliffhanger, so beware of that. The story is fun and the characters are amazing. Narrator did an amazing job!

Good, but… you have to get there.

So, the plot and storyline is pretty good. The only problem is you have to weed through over three hours that should have taken one at most to get the plot rolling. Sooooooooo, over half the audiobook. If you are as stubborn as I was you can get there. Otherwise don’t waste the credit.

Cognitive Dissidence

My only objection to this story line is modern day cell phones do not fit comfortably into a fantasy world where multiple kingdoms are waring over magical god-stones. The same applies to modern day cars, and modern machine guns. Just when I am comfortably slipping into a magical fantasy story I am jarred back to the 21 century and all there gadgets. It creates a cognitive dissidence that shatters the fantasy world.

The introductory plot outlined in book one is a good one. This is a story of political intrigue between kingdoms at war. There is a sub plot of forbidden romance between a prince and his bodyguard / advisor. The plot contains a murdered Queen, the prince’s mother. What’s not to like and get lost in, until the 21 century rears its jangling head? CRASH! There goes the suspension of belief necessary to embrace the myth.

On the plus side Kale Williams does an excellent job narrating the peace. His voice is a pleasure to listen to.

The adventure begins

So this book is a huge build up to a major plot line. We have two love stories going on at the same time, they are honestly small and a little inconsequential for the plot. And the burn is definitely slow. It ends in a cliffhanger so beware of that. But I definitely see how this story can become addicting.

Highly recommend - you must have patience

Me to my son: I love this author but this book is just doesn't reach it's potential....the very next day - remember that book - its soooo good, all the individual parts are starting to come together.

That was a conversation I had.

I adore Jocelynn Drake. Her world building is outstanding. I was so looking forward to this new series but it dragged and was disjointed and then Jocelynn did her magic and all those threads started to come together and now I am so invested. I need the rest of this series.

Its worth the listen but you need to be patient to get there.

Should be marked YA

Very one dimensional world with archetypical and unoriginal, depthless characters. This might please a tween or someone looking for a silly beach read, but everyone else should steer clear of this disappointing title.

I really wanted it to work

I really wanted this story to work but the writing is just terrible. The language is simplistic and repetitive. The characters are utterly one dimensional: the dumb goofy jock, the broody prince, the stiff backed uptight diplomat, the gruff soldier. Ugh! Just awful. I tried multiple times to get through this book but I just CANNOT do it. The narrator was pretty darn good he just doesn’t have much to work with. Sorry Ms. Drake but this series is just not for me.
