Police Chief Jesse Stone has a problem—actually, several problems: dead bodies keep turning up. A man takes his dog out for a run on the beach, only to be discovered later with two holes in his chest. A woman drives to the mall to purchase groceries and her body is soon found crumpled in a heap behind her loaded shopping cart. A commuter takes a shortcut home from the train but never makes it back alive.

Investigating a serial killer in an affluent suburban town is difficult, and with the added pressures from the town selectmen and media, the heat is turning up on Jesse. The harder these outside forces push against him, the more Jesse retreats into himself. Despite all the odds, he's convinced it is up to him alone to stop the killings.

I was very glad I had seen a couple of the TV shows staring "Jesse Stone". It gave immediate faces etc. to many of the characters. The star of the TV show has a voice and inflections extremely close to Robert Forster.

A good story and fun listen.

My favorite Jesse Stone narrator,combined with the best of Parker, great series, great narrator and a good storyline that kept me listening all the way through....We'll miss you Parker, Spenser, Sunny and Stone...

...the relationship between Jesse and his ex-wife is becoming exhausting. Jesse is supposedly an intelligent man yet let's this woman control his life. I'm hoping he dumps her in the next book, please!

why didn't Stone give his officers a picture of the likely suspects? Seems "uncoply" of him.

I really like the Jesse Stone novels and the series that featured Tom Selleck. This book is one of the best in the series. I enjoyed listening to this audio book. It is a nice mix of relationships, character development, intrigue, suspense, and solving cases.

Liked it will buy another. The reader's script was the only part that needed help.

loved the story of the struggles between a man and a women in love, that lost their way.... Oh , and a serial murder mystery mixed in!

I've always enjoyed the movies with Tom Selleck in the starring role. Jesse Stone...This sort of followed the book...I pictured the scenes in my head while Rob Forester was reading the lines. I will say he has a unique style when he does read the books but I have heard better. He read the lines and did not vary his voice pattern or inflection between characters. Example, he didn't adjust at all when a woman was to speak...Unlike someone like Ray Porter who does a GREAT woman's voice...or Sarah Mollo-Christenson doing a man's voice...etc...Certainly there are better performers who read novels. But overall I was okay with it...
The story is solid and like I had mentioned I followed along like the movie playing in my head...and I saw the movies first...so it was cool. Obviously, A very different ending and certainly different relationship with Jen...but it was okay...

This book was done as a made for tv movie and has run several times. I love the movie, but the book is much better!
