About this listen

The beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author brings her Nantucket novels to a brilliant finish: when rich strangers move to the island, social mayhem and a possible murder follow. Can Nantucket’s best locals save the day, and their way of life? Includes special audio content!

Chief of Police Ed Kapenash is about to retire. Blond Sharon is going through a divorce. But when a 22-million-dollar summer home is purchased by the mysterious Richardsons—how did they make their money, exactly?—Ed, Sharon, and everyone in the community are swept up in high drama. The Richardsons throw lavish parties, flirt with multiple locals, flaunt their wealth with not one but two yachts, and raise impossible hopes of everyone they meet. When their house burns to the ground and their most essential employee goes missing, the entire island is up in arms.

The last of Elin Hilderbrand's bestselling Nantucket novels, SWAN SONG is a propulsive medley of glittering gatherings, sun-soaked drama, wisdom and heart, featuring the return of some of her most beloved characters, including, most importantly, the beautiful and timeless island of Nantucket itself.

The audiobook edition features an interview between Elin and her longtime narrator Erin Bennett.

Editorial Review

A fantastic finish
I have a confession: Swan Song is the first Elin Hilderbrand novel I’ve ever listened to—it certainly won’t be my last—but it is the author’s last book ("for now" she says in her author’s note). I thoroughly enjoyed this glittery, gossipy, and glamorous story with its delightful setting and intriguing cast of characters. The premise for Swan Song couldn’t be more fitting for Hilderbrand’s final novel. Nantucket’s police chief is just days away from sailing off into retirement when, on the same night, one of the island’s most luxurious homes burns down under suspicious circumstances and a young woman goes missing. The investigation moves forward in parallel with riveting stories of family, friendship, and love among the island’s swanky residents, and you won’t want to hit pause until the end of the final chapter (performed by the author herself). As Hilderbrand’s long-time narrator, Erin Bennett knows just how to transport you straight to the heart of Nantucket to bring these characters and storylines to life. I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last we hear from the "Queen of beach reads," but in the meantime, I’ll be happily digging into her backlist of summertime staples. — Margaret H., Audible Editor

This can’t be the end! Too good to stop!

I have loved reading (listening to) all of the Nantucket based novels and I was so sad to learn that this would be the last. The writing, the characters, the narration, the setting…I love it all, and I especially enjoy these books in the summer time. This final novel did not disappoint and it almost felt like a reunion of sorts. I’m very judgmental with a book’s ending and it can make or break a book for me. If an ending is lacking, seems rushed or leaves me with more questions than answers, it ruins the whole book for me even if I enjoyed the story up until that point. That said, this ending brought everything full circle and left me with all of the feels. I truly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend this to all readers. If you’ve never read any of Elin’s Nantucket books I highly recommend starting with those before reading this. It’s a great book on its own, but you’ll enjoy it so much more if you’re already familiar with the characters and their back stories. Looking forward to what is next to come from this dynamic author/narrator duo!

Love Erin Bennett’s narrations. Will miss Elin’s book release every six months.

Elin’s characters draw you in and she incorporates characters from her other stories. Elin’s descriptions of Nantucket take you there.

Disappointed

Really disappointed with the ending. I love all of Elin’s books but this one was not my favorite. A little disappointed.

Getaway

Between the storyline and the amazing narration by Erin Bennett you are whisked away to the island and right there with all the characters from start to finish. Just a wonderful and beautiful read.

I’ve read everyone so the closure with the characters

Love Elin, love Erin Bennett - vacationing on Nantucket you realize she sounds just like she is a year-rounder there!
Loved the plot - wish writers would not feel like they HAVE to put in political aspects of gender-it just seems forced.
But I will always read Elin’s books - I love that I’m intrigued in the first two pages.

Main Character was the best piece of this.

I enjoyed reading from the perspective of Coco. As this author continues to age the main characters in her books age as well and it was nice to see a younger character I assume around the young 30s age take the lead. It just made the book more relevant to my own personal life. I found Coco to be very relatable and reasonable. The other characters weren’t over exaggerated.

The characters

Could not put it down. Had to find out what would happen next. Great blend of personalties and various reactions to various events. And who does not like to feel good when a story ends

Captivating Characters Good Storyline

Great storyline, interesting characters.
The last chapter with the Author narrating the Audio version ruined the ending for me!
It was a Horrible transition from a Great narrator & audio voice, to a new voice better-suited for behind the scenes than reading audibly.
I could hardly understand what was going on & how the story was ending.
You couldn’t decipher between text, conversation, or the fact that the Ed was dreaming as his life was ending.
Elin is an Amazing author, & I’m not trying to write a completely negative review, but I don’t feel she should ever read her books on Audio ever again.
