About this listen
Having successfully repelled the Resistance incursion into the Sol system, Terran Fleet Command must now deal with the far-flung worlds of the Sajeth Collective, which sponsored the attack. Task forces are dispatched to Damara and Lesheera to begin the first human blockades of entire planets. With the only ships fast enough to quickly bring the fight to the enemy's doorstep, TFC must do so alone, leaving only minimal forces behind to safeguard the Earth.
At home, humanity finally makes its decision regarding membership in the Pelaran Alliance. At the same time, the Guardian makes a decision of its own, calling the entire purpose behind its 500-year mission into question.
On the far side of Sajeth Collective space, the newly formed Crowned Republic of Graca experiments with technology so revolutionary that it attracts the attention of a powerful new enemy. Responding to a call for help from Prince Rugali Naftur himself, the Leadership Council must decide if rescuing a few Wek scientists is worth the risk of yet another war, this time involving direct conflict with the Pelaran Alliance itself.
Piloting a single, largely untested ship, Captain Tom Prescott and crew are once again called upon for a special mission - a trip into the heart of an empire to complete an assignment that only the Guardian itself could have envisioned.

Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Aliens exist...and, as it turns out, most of them aren’t that friendly. Jacob Brown wasn’t even born yet the first time they attacked Earth. He was only 14 the second time it happened. When Earth finally came together and fielded its first spaceborne military, Jacob didn’t hesitate to volunteer. Serving aboard a mighty starship, he’d be able to defend his planet - and his family - when, inevitably, they came again.

Humanity has colonized over 500 planets under the not-always-benevolent administration of the Federation of Planetary States via the FED Army and Navy. Longstanding grievances over economic exploitation by Earth-based companies have grown into a full-scale rebellion, and attempted secession has been tried by many of the more successful colonies. The Rebels believe a peaceful separation is possible. The FEDs believe an easy and swift military resolution is available.

This is a WOW.
This author Tori L. Harris is something else and is every space sci-fi junkie's dream. The books in this series just leave you guessing and thinking they will be predictable moments and yet go to a direction you want but not on the path you would assume which is wonderful.
Jeffrey Kafer's performance is damn near perfect that you really forget that hes even there. This is a goal that all narrators should desire to really make you drift off into the fantasy of the author's book.
WOW, really wow!!

Great Military Sci-Fi, But More is to Come!
Books are expensive. Audiobooks are not any more expensive than regular books via Audible with a Membership - but still expensive and harder to borrow from a library.
That being said, this series has been a terrific military based Sci-Fi story. But the ending left on a cliffhanger. So did Star Wars and Harry Potter, so what is my problem? I like to listen to books. My eyes are bad due to a car accident so listening is what I do. This book came out and wow, it was a wonderful, fun ride. Just enough tech to be great Sci-Fi but a great belief in Humanity to keep Gene Roddenberry happy.
All the books in the series were worth the money I spent. Wonderfully made characters, superb battles, shipyards to fire the imagination. Not everything works -- a nice dose of reality. The narration fits the tone of the book perfectly. I recommend the series wholeheartedly!
I have only one complaint. It will be months, maybe a year or more before the next book is released. Will I not listen to another book between now and then? As was said in Meredith Wilson's Music Man, "Not on your fireless cooker!" So when the next installment comes along I will have several other books and their stories rolling around in my noggin. Often causing me to think hard or listen to the previous book again to gain my bearings.
It is an excellent series. But it is NOT Harry Potter or Star Wars where you will remember the story where it left off. Too many great Sci-Fi series do this and to me, it is starting to get frustrating.
