Publisher's summary

The Tao Te Ching is a compilation of meditations, comprised of 81 short chapters. Each chapter reflects on the beauty and mystical nature of the Tao (the Way). Tao Te Ching (Book of the Way) is one of the oldest written works that provides advice and guidance on perspective, inner strength, divine power, and moral excellence, among other principles of the universe.

The Tao teaches us how to be one with the universe. One with each other. One with nature. One with our soul. This 21st-century edition has been translated so that ancient text (originally written in classical Chinese in the fourth century BC) can be understood and enjoyed by the average listener.

Insightful

I enjoyed listening to this book and will need to relisten as there was so many insightful thoughts, that I did not have time to think and process before the next proverb was given. I have listen to several books narrated by Roberto Scarlato and he did a fantastic read with this book, I only wish it was slightly slower, only so I could focus on the meanings.

Great Narration

Despite being raised with lots of Taoist traditions as a 5th generation Chinese-American, I had never read the Tao Te Ching. This narration was easy to understand and held my interest. Although the translation can make a big difference in the meaning and intent of the original text, I was able to understand a lot of the teachings here and how they relate to the values I was taught within my family.

More woo than expected

Tao Te Ching is a fundamental text for both philosophical and religious Taoism and effectively translates to The Book of the Way and Virtue. It is a collection of short sayings and thoughts brought together to teach how to live. Because each is very short (80 plus of them in the 70 minutes) and not necessarily linked to one another you have to listen and concentrate to get all of them. A moments in attention and the idea has passed.

I went in expecting something close to Proverbs, a collection of saying and teachings of advice, logic and philosophy. And while it has some of that there is a whole lot of spiritualist type stuff in there about energies etc.

The translation is clear and easily understood. I understand that Tao Te Ching is considered a difficult text to translate faithfully, so I don't know how faithful this translation is but it is clear and easily understood.

Narration by Roberto Scarlato is good. Clear, well paced and easy to listen to.
