About this listen

#1 New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey returns with an all-new sports rom-com about a burly, surly single dad who falls head-over-hockey-stick for his quirky live-in nanny...

Tallulah is smart, vivacious, and studying to be a marine biologist. She’s also twenty-six and broke. So when Burgess, a battle-scarred hockey veteran and newly single dad, offers her a job as his live-in nanny, she jumps at the opportunity to get paid while living in a super fancy neighborhood and being around Lissa, his cool but introverted tween.

Her tween charge isn’t the only one who could use some help fitting in, though. According to…well, everyone except Burgess, he needs to get back on the dating scene, and adventurous Tallulah is just the girl to show him how. But as boundaries are slowly crossed and Burgess finds himself pulled between his daughter, who wants her parents back together, and his insane chemistry with Tallulah, a huge rift is formed, and Tallulah does the “right” thing—breaks her own heart and walks away.

Though Burgess knows it’s for the best—he’s too jaded, with too much baggage—a chance meeting, and a new push from his daughter, forces him to put everything on the line and fight to prove he learned his lessons well and is worthy of a happily ever after with Tallulah.

Tessa Bailey brings all the heat, humor, plus emotional angst in this one.

This female narrator was great but I really prefer a duet, male/female narration.

As far as storyline, my heart hurt for Tallulah but also surged for her gaining her strength to live her life after suffering such horror in the past. Her new boss, Burgess, becomes a big part of this journey.

Burgess stole my heart over and over, the super grumpy hockey player and single dad definitely has a softness he hides well from everyone EXCEPT his daughter and also Tallulah, who’s become his daughter’s au pair he’s falling hard for. Yep. This is definitely a story of HE FALLS FIRST.

When Burgess messes up - and badly - and pushes Tallulah away, an intervention ensues by his best friends and rookie teammates that’s priceless. Then of course there’s groveling to get Tallulah back plus a wedding of their best friends that they attend which creates tension and more, all of it ending in a heart melting HEA and an epilogue that made me tear up. If you have a heart, it will make your eyes water too.

Good, not Great!

If you are expecting another “Fan Girl” you will be a little disappointed. After listening to Fan Girl, which I absolutely LOVED, I automatically added this book to my wishlist. Unfortunately, there were a couple of dull sections that didn’t keep my attention, leading me to venture to another book. Because I’m no quitter, I returned back to the book and finished it.

Burgess 😍

Wonderful love story. Narrator is great. I forget that it’s a woman doing both parts. The only thing that would make it better is if they re-recorded it and added in a male narrator, like Jason Clark (he’d be a perfect fit) and made it in duet. Aside from that, I loved the whole book.

Two likeable people

I liked the story. The characters were likable and I enjoyed the evolution of their storyline. I could’ve used a little less sex scenes, but they were fine. I wanted to rate the whole thing a five but my phone screen doesn’t allow me to type to the far right. So it was recorded as a four incorrectly.

Tessa Bailey Never Fails...

Tessa Bailey is one of my favorite authors, up there with Nora Roberts and Jude Deveroux for me. I loved this second book in this series more than the first book, which I devoured in a day. The big issue for me was the intonation of the narrator when she's doing the male voices, sound like they have to pull the words out of her, makes the male lead sound almost whiny. That was annoying and distracting, however, the storyline kept me going. 10/10 would recommend this book.
