Publisher's summary

An action-oriented guide to help anyone find their calling and achieve their goals, inspired by the author's popular blog post with the same title

The Career Manifesto presents an inspiring and refreshingly simple approach to finding your passion and purpose and then jump-starting a dream career to achieve those, by asking three essential questions:

  • What do you want your impact to be?
  • What are the potential pathways that move you toward your purpose?
  • How can you hold yourself accountable for your goals?

Award-winning CEO of XO Group and sought-after speaker Michael Steib draws on his own diverse work experience and career highlights as well as powerful anecdotes from other successful business leaders to offer expert guidance, field-tested advice, and interactive exercises that will help you answer these three key questions, envision a goal, and then craft and execute a plan to achieve it. For young professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives seeking more purpose and meaning in their work and lives, The Career Manifesto is the essential way to build - and follow through on - an effective plan to excel at whatever job, project, or career goal you put your mind to.

Highest marks for helpfulness in re-centering your career and telling the story with humor

Mike Steib is a friend of mine and that’s why I listened to this audiobook. But it has nothing to do with why I am recommending that you listen to this book. And in full disclosure, he never asked me to write this review.

I typically do not choose books on leadership or ones that fall into the business or self-help genre. I usually read and listen to novels and non-fiction books about history, news, and sports. I quickly found this is not just a book about a path to a new and improved career. It really is a story about pursuing a better, more disciplined life. Mike’s wit and intellect that I came to know in our college days, come through in his outstanding writing, and even more so, in his entertaining narration. I say this with the utmost respect and praise as I am an audiobook narrator myself; Mike’s cadence, pacing, tone and inflection in reading his own words bring you right into the pages. It’s as if he has done this before. He is concise in his discussion of ideas with some strategies that we can all implement - and he is a model in his ambition and success. Plus, I laughed several times out loud. This is an excellent audiobook that I highly recommend.

If you’re considering it, get it! Worth it!

I would recommend this book to literally anybody and at any stage of their career, regardless of the industry. Whether corporate, small business, entrepreneurial; or anything in between.

I wish someone would’ve recommended this book to me when I started my career.

It is filled with useful, and often intuitive advice. Most of the stuff in the book may be things many of us know, or find obvious. But Mike adds a lot of value in shaping them in a useful, sequential and packaged approach. In a brilliant, practical and humane way.

I will keep coming back to this book every so often, if only to remind myself of certain nuggets we often forget throughout our different journeys.

PS: I’ve previously never had anything nice to say about “self help” books.

Outstanding Read & Easily Applicable

This book was such an easy read. It was also narrated very well. The narration made it even more relatable. The practices outlines in the book can be easily implemented and have been very helpful to me.

Great review for people with options

Some excellent advice here as a condensed easily digestible review of contemporary leaders in the areas of organization, time management, leadership, habit formation, positivity, and more. I found Mike’s writing and oratory styles to be pleasant and engaging. If you are already well versed in these areas there may not be much new here for you. Also, the calculation to achieve five hours of discretionary time to work on your career path is presumptive. What if you have a 50+ hr job and 1.5 hr daily commute? What do you sacrifice? The process seemed geared to the already advantaged person that needs to reset their attitude and time wasting habits. A single parent desperately fighting to hold two jobs may need more help to get on a new path.
