About this listen

The Constable: The Complete Series contains both Books 1 and 2 in The Constable series.

My name is Alphonse Malloy, and I see everything.

From a simple glance, I know your hobbies, what you ate for breakfast, how well you slept, and whether or not your wife is secretly seeing the high school biology teacher when you're not around.

I can't explain how or why I get these feelings, only that I know they're true. All the little secrets you're too afraid to tell.

Sometimes, that means helping people. Other times, it means staring down the barrel of a loaded gun.

I wish I could tell you I was using this ability for good.

I wish I could tell you a lot of things.

Experience this exciting story set in the Renegade Star universe, featuring everyone's favorite Constable. If you're a fan of Sherlock Holmes, House M.D., Altered Carbon, or Renegade Star, you'll love this sci-fi thriller.

The Constable

The was my first Audiobook, I really enjoyed it. If you are a fan of the of the Renegade Star series this is a really good prequel to learn how Alphonse Malloy ticks. I really enjoyed Charlie Thurston’s reading, he is very talented, he cashed his voice for each character and kept them consistently good.

Not bad, not great

I wish the Narrator had taken the time to listen to the rest of the Renegade books and had tried harder to incorporate some of that performance (and pronunciations) to the series. It would have made it flow better.

I also don't like how "iamverysmart" Alfonse is in this, I know he has a lot of work to grow but damn, if you knew this guy in real life with that kind of tactless "i know more than you" attitude you'd probably want nothing to do with him. Glad he grew out of it though. I got this book cause I finished all the existing Renegade books and wanted more from that universe, but honestly I could take it or leave it. But it was fun to revisit some older characters.

A fluff piece

A decent story. Not sure it it’s worth the credit. If you’ve gone through everything else you can listen to and liked the Renegade Star series then you won’t go wrong with this story.

Fun read

This was a good, pulp-like space opera which reminded me of the fun that I had reading E.E. Doc Smith or early Heinlein. We'll paved. Good fun.

An ok book for younger readers

A little shallow. Probably for an audience younger than me. Would be fine as a teaching device for middle school

The Constable

Another beautifully fleshed out character that exists in the constellation of J N Chaney's The Renegade Star's universe. The author does a tremendous job of weaving these disparate characters and their story arcs together in an interconnectivle narrative, and The Constable does not disappoint. I have been a fan of Alphonse since he was introduced in The Renegade Star series, and now to know and understand his back story makes it that much more satisfying. I highly recommend this addition to The Renegade Stars story line.

Sam Thompson

Very Fun Romp! The Back Story on Alphonse Malloy

Alphonse Malloy is one of our merry band of renegades in Channey’s Renegade. Star Series. This Series gives us his back story.

Very Fun Romp! Lots of puzzles, lots of trouble, blended with interesting characters and baked into a rollicking coming-of-age adventure! FUN!

Fantastic Criminal Thriller and Sci-fi

Loved this prequel to the renegade star series, but it stands on its own as a great sci fi work both as a criminal thriller and a detective story. Performance was great, and there were so many times I forgot I was listening to an audiobook and was transported into the story.

Romping great time!

Enjoyable romp full of intrigue, suspense and a true criminal master minds comeuppance. Both a great page turner as well as great listen from Charlie Thurston.

sci-fi Sherlock Holmes

sci-fi Sherlock Holmes yes does he have the same Flair for writing as Conan Doyle no but that's the modern day we live in the book is very good and full of some good twists and turns. the author does a good job in making the young Constable slip into normal traps we all see his readers but he is Young.
