Eldritch Black
A dastardly secret. A creature that cannot be. A great mystery itching to be solved.
Dylan Wylde has barely had time to recover from his harrowing battle with Captain Grimdire when he and his friend's find themselves caught up in a new mysterious adventure on Weirdbey Island.
People are vanishing in the night, and no one wants to talk about it....
Are these sinister occurrences linked to the eerie fortuneteller who’s just arrived in town? The one gathering a horde of strange, creepy-eyed followers?
Dylan and his friends soon find themselves investigating the disappearances while uncovering a cryptic mythical creature who shouldn’t exist.
Now, as a series of dark events spread across the island, they’re forced to face a terrifying new foe who threatens to take over the world.
Jackalopes, rotten mermaids, and rabbits that are not what they seem....
For listeners who love scary magical adventures, Goosebumps, and Stranger Things.

The narrator, J. Scott Bennett did a wonderful job throughout the book. He was able to use unique voices for the many characters, even a dreaded Jackalope!
Thanks to the author and narrator for a free copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest review.

Another great story about Weirdbey Island

The Day of the Jackalope seemed a bit more geared towards kids to me than the first one did, but even as a full grown adult I had a lot of fun experiencing it. Some nice themes about being yourself, and more importantly, the power of believing in yourself.
Scott Bennett, as usual, did a fabulous job with all the voices. While I missed the pirate accent from book one, there was a still a lot of great character voices to hear in this one.
I'm looking forward to hearing more from both Eldritch Black and Scott Bennett and the adventures of the Weirdbey Island gang!

When Dylan encounters what appear to be a Jackalope in the woods, he and his friends decide that they are the only ones who can figure out what is really going on. But will they be able to get to the bottom of the mysterious happenings before all of their family and friends become mind-controlled rabbits?
I am much older than the target age for this series, but I find these books to be hugely entertaining. Eldritch Black has a wonderful writing style and keeps the pace moving rapidly to keep younger readers engaged. He also has his characters facing their fears and realizing that they are stronger than they think, which is a good lesson for all of us. The narrator, J. Scott Bennett, does a great job with his performance and added a lot to my enjoyment of the book. I would recommend this book for readers/listeners of all ages, especially those who are fans of books like those in the "Goosebumps" series.
I was given the opportunity to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the author/publisher/narrator and chose to review it.
Are Jackalopes real?

Now that I’ve finished the book I can say that I’m not as concerned about not having read the first book. It probably would have helped the beginning make more sense initially, but by the middle I was totally fine. This was an odd tale in the sense of Alice in Wonderland type weird. The story had an odd pace but it was quick enough that it kept you interested. There wasn’t any profanity or inappropriate situations which leads me to think this would be a solid read for anyone who enjoys reading. Really you don’t kids might struggle or get a bit scared by the suspenseful bits, but really a 8 year old or older would enjoy this book no trouble. Despite my experience, definitely go back and read the first book first!
I’ve listened to other performances by the narrator and he has good rhythm and his voice differentiation could be better. He does have better differentiation when he does accents or stronger pitch differences.
