Publisher's summary

It’s everything she’s ever wanted...

When I first set eyes on Westhill House with its breathtaking views of the sea, I knew Jack and I could make this our forever home.

It may be falling apart with an overgrown garden, but with some tender loving care, we can repair this beautiful building and perhaps our relationship, too...

But the more time I spend renovating our new house, the more time Jack is spending at work.

At least Lori is here to keep me company.

She has her own troubles, yet she always listens to mine.

She’s helping to restore the house, uncovering its secrets one by one.

Like the children’s drawings under the wallpaper in the back bedroom.

The hidden papers underneath the floorboards in the turret room.

And the fact that Westhill House is a place women used to go to feel safe....

Lori seems to know a lot about Westhill House.

The question is, why?

A gripping, spine-chilling listen brimming with secrets and lies. If you loved The Girl on the Train, The Wife Between Us, or The Woman in the Window then this dark, twisting psychological thriller from Amazon chart best seller Jess Ryder is guaranteed to have you gripped.

Wow 🙀

This was a really good book. I couldn’t stop listening because I had to know what happened. There were parts that were just sad. It’s easy to stand n the side and wonder why a woman who is a victim of domestic abuse stays with a man that will repeat the same behavior. But it’s different to be the woman it’s happening to. These men will tear the woman’s self esteem apart piece by piece till there is nothing left of her. She believes she’s worthless then believes that she deserves to be punished. It’s a sad vicious circle. I pray all women that are victims of abuse have the courage to leave and build themselves back up.

Didn't Hate it, but Didn't Love it

This story sounded promising, but it had a painfully slow burn. It most definitely was not the riveting Psychological Thriller I was craving. In fact, it didn't even get exciting until the last hour or so of the book, and even then it definitely wasn't "exciting." It was a little predictable, too, which sometimes I don't mind if I later get the satisfaction of knowing I was right. But this one brought no satisfaction for me. I just wanted it to be over so I could pick my next book.

The narrator wasn't great, either. I feel she lacked too much emotion for the topic of this story that should have been heart-wrenching. That being said, I have heard much worse, and I didn't dislike her enough to not see it through. If you are looking for an OUTSTANDING narrator, I recommend anything with Joanne Froggatt or Shane East. Not sure I am going to try this author again. Drama might be a more appropriate genre for this title, but this was no Psychological Thriller. It was not suspenseful at all.

Loved it!

I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down and felt there was just turn after turn. Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of time to read for pleasure due the demand I read for my career so when a book keeps me up late into the night I know it is a good one! I highly recommend it.

A story about "who are you, really" for all the character s

A story where a historical house contains characters that one or more puts violent drawings on the walls under the wall paper that had to be scraped off. How did the drawings get under the wall paper? The main character's inheritance of her parents jewelry and trinkets is stolen. You won't believe when you find out. And historical Kay married to abuser Foxy-does that house serve to save her? Are there bodies buried on site? Ghosts?

Not a gripping thriller but enjoyable

This was not a "gripping Psycological Thriller", but it was good. Interesting plot with easy to follow charactors. I liked it.

Couldn’t stop listening…

Another amazing book by Jess Ryder - a true psychological thriller with twists and turns that will keep you hooked! I’ve listened to all of her books on Audible and they are all just as fantastic. Only bad news is I have to wait for her next book to come out….

Not sure how I feel about this book!

I just finished listening to this book and I'm on the fence.
I still really don't know why the main characters did what they did.
It wasn't bad, but I think I'm a bit disappointed.

Not my fave

So this has been my last Jess Ryder novel I’ve listened to and although good. Not my favorite. Probably my least favorite. Maybe there wasn’t enough drama for me? Lol. But I do feel like all my questions were answered at the end and nothing was left hanging to my imagination. All in all the narrator did a fabulous job and I hope to hear more from both of them.
