About this listen
Ring for the angels!
Sir Robert of Offord dies mysteriously just after accusing his new wife of adultery and his son-by-marriage wants the shire's new Crowner to prove the knight was murdered. Instead, Sir Faucon de Ramis discovers that a bell owned by the dead man is missing.
But who could have taken it - the daughter who loved it as a child, the knight who wants it as collateral, or the prior who wishes to restore it to its holy purpose of calling the angels?

Story
It's 1194, and Sir Faucon de Ramis, the shire's newly appointed keeper of the pleas, must do his duty and make an official declaration of the cause of a miller's death. Saddled with a clerk who names Faucon his "penance", the shire's first crowner must thread the tangled relationships between the sheriff, the village of Priors Holston, and the priory that once ruled it. As a simple task takes a turn to the political, what seems obvious isn't, and what appears safe turns out to be more dangerous than he could imagine.

Story
When the peat-cutters came to report the dead man, Gil Cunningham was up in the roof-space of his mother's house, teaching his new young wife swordplay. They believe the corpse to be that of a local missing man. His wife and the widow who runs the local coalmine are sure the body belongs to someone else, but then they find themselves accused of having killed him by witchcraft. And if the corpse is not the missing man, who is it? Gil and Alys try to get to the heart of the matter.

Really like this series.
I'm not a literary snob but I am particularly about what I read and listen to. These have been very entertaining and I have not been prone to find fault with the writing style or characters as I often do with books.

waiting for the next in series.
This didn't get a full five across because it was rather inevitable that the daughter of "our hero"'s friend would be a target for our serial killer. That said, the rest of the story is a good one and one hopes that book 5 is forthcoming so the adventure continues.

The Final Toll
This series is a jewel ! Lovely plot twists and suspense, excellent characters, historical setting and tidbits. I felt that I love this protagonist as much as I love Bro. Cadfael. I am anxiously waiting for the next book to find out if the little girl can be saved from the serial killer!!
