Publisher's summary

In a quiet home in the Fort Lauderdale suburbs, a woman psychically witnesses a murder. In a posh estate a few miles away, a man lies dead. The only clues are a collection of tarot cards sent to the victim's home and a nuisance call from a Fort Lauderdale woman who claims to have had a vision of the killing. For Detective Wayne Sheppard, the killing of famous criminologist Andrew Steele and the disappearance of his beautiful wife is about to test everything he has ever believed and everything he knows about logic, police work, and scientific truth.

Psychics and the government. Oh my.

Mira is a psychic and she has had a vision of the murder of a man. She does what she believes is the right thing and notifies the police. The police kind of ignore her because well, she's a psychic and they kind of think of those types of people as wing-nuts. Mira's problem is that her husband was murdered and the police couldn't figure out why she couldn't tell them who had done it or why if she was psychic she didn't warn him. The detective working on the murder of the man that Mira saw contacts her at her business One World to get information about some tarot cards found at the scene. And so it begins. This is just the start of the fleshing out of the back story about the victim, his wife, the husbands partner in the government experiment of prisoners, the kidnapper/murderer and his prison buddies and fellow guinea pigs.

There are several stories and characters going on here and it takes time to develop each one. There are times when the story gets bogged down with all this information. More information than I needed to hear. I knew certain people were attracted to each other I just didn't find it necessary to the story to hear about what they do in the bedroom. I liked hearing about the different abilities of all the characters. Not everyone that has these gifts uses their gifts for good. I received this audio book copy for free in return for a review. I can see myself continuing with this series. Good book. Good narrator

Not bad but long

I enjoyed the idea of this story more than the actual tale. Im not sure why but I didn’t feel particular love for the characters. I’m not sure what it was, liked Mira enough but I guess I expected more of a cozy fun style mystery. Instead it was more of a dark psychological style that just felt like it dragged out a little. It wasn’t a horrible story and held my interest good enough I suppose however it’s not one that I would really listen to again. The narrator did do a wonderful job with all the characters and I would certainly listen to her again. I received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Psychic sleuth

Mira is a psychic who foresaw her husband’s murder 4 years before it happened. She has once again seen a murder in her mind and contacts the police to report it. She is ignored until Detective Wayne Sheppard is put on the murder case and he is open to working with a psychic. The plot is interesting with ex-prisoners with mind controlling capabilities to a very secret Government organization using these psychic powers as a weapon. I enjoyed the characters and plot. I did find that the narration was rushed between chapters and quite often had to rewind this audio book to realize that a new chapter had started.

Interesting story

What did you like best about The Hanged Man? What did you like least?

I disliked the child and how the plot seemed to move so slowly

Would you be willing to try another book from T.J. MacGregor? Why or why not?

Possibly

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Patrice Gambardella?

Not sure

Do you think The Hanged Man needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

maybe.

An interesting story with a paranormal twist

If you believe in psychics and love a mystery this is the book for you. Mira is a psychic that had a vision of her husband being murdered. And now it's happened again. A man has been murdered and of course the police are skeptics except for Wayne Sheppard. There have been Tarot cards left at the scene of the crime. This is the start of it all. The characters need time to develop so at times is seems the story gets a little slow but well worth the read/listen.

The narrator did an very good job with the characters and the story.

A great example of this genre

A great read - 5* all the way. It's a big book at over 11 hours and it is packed with tension and suspense, it is a well crafted tale bringing together lots of "players" in the search for a killer.
A really fresh detective/thriller.
Narration is excellent, clear and precise, easy to listen too.
This is the 1st book in the series but is standalone, though I will be reading the next one.

Excellent

Interesting plot, a physic who had a vivid dream and turns to the police with that information. Detective Wayne finds a murder had been committed a well known crimtologist and now the wife is missing. Mira holds the key he believes to who is the killer is also.. Usually the pyshic has some connection, or she wouldn’t of dream it he believes. Good plot, added by Mira daughter and grandmother.
The audio by Patrice added to the story. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Murder & Tarot

T. J. MacGregor has written a book that described both a murder and a disappearance mystery. Throughout this book, the author has interwoven people with psychic abilities. I like the way that she presents those abilities as nudges, feelings, etc rather than that the practitioner as someone who always gets the whole answer or has full and complete pictures while having a psychic interlude. I enjoy her stories and I recommend them to others who enjoy a paranormal twist within the mystery. Patrice Gambardella's narration is good and her voice is pleasant.
