About this listen

When Mel's mother passes away, she and her husband are tasked with sorting her estate. The affair is long and tedious, but when she and her husband, Jamie, discover Mel's inherited property in West Virginia, they have no idea that life would drop them right in the middle of those lonely hills.

Amid the move, a career change, and a surprise pregnancy, unexpected disturbances rattle Mel to her core and leave her shaken while questioning her mental state. But when she discovers the bloody truth about her new home, there's no going back. Something tragic happened, but the truth of it, only the hills know.

The Hills Know

This one is for anyone who likes ghost stories and a bit of folk magic! Hanging out with the main character during the creepy build up was fun. Is she experiencing mental illness? Is it her pregnancy hormones? I wasn’t expecting what is finally revealed.

The audiobook narrator worked well for the story. The voice was engaging and genuine.

So creepy

I really enjoyed this book. It can be disheartening to feel like nothing is going right. But when things suddenly start looking up, there’s no going back for this couple. Moving and starting a new life can be horrific as these two unsuspecting humans come to learn after inheriting a house. Definitely high creepy factor and lots of spooky happenings.

Nice Ghost Story

This is a pretty by the books haunted house story, but the characters are engaging and the story is solid. it was a nice relaxing read. There are some distracting audio issues with the sound getting quite tinny and popping silences occuring pretty regularly. It does distract from the atmosphere, but overall it's not a reason to let this book slip by you.

Atmosphere And Mystery

4.25⭐️ The author really captured the spooky atmosphere and keeps the reader engaged. Is this mysterious house in the middle of West Virginia with no cell service that her mother left her haunted? Hormones from her pregnancy? Is she losing it? The story reveals itself really well and has a great slow-burn feel. The narrator for the audiobook is also, very good.

If you like “haunted house mysteries” then I believe you will enjoy this one.

Note: I received an Audible copy from the author for a fair and honest review

Cliche but heartfelt

I don’t want to be too hard on this book because it was a decent read. It just felt rushed. I wanted to settle in with these characters but it felt more like an outline than a fully fleshed out story. It wasn’t great but it was good enough for me to see what else this author writes because writers typically get better over time.
